Hello.

I recently came across the orbit@home website via Wikipedia, which made reference to it as a Spaceguard project. From there, I made my way to the orbit@home Message boards, the BOINC Message Boards, and the BOINC Synergy Message Boards. I am now wondering, before I become an active participant in any of them, is one of them recommended over the others?

The orbit@home Message Boards don’t seem very active and the main page itself doesn’t give the impression of a successful, ongoing, project. I am still not clear what it does, or what role volunteers play in the project. In fact, it is not even listed as a BOINC project on the main BOINC page. Has the orbit@home project been discontinued? (If so, I won’t bother with its message board).

The BOINC Message Boards are a little busier, but the BOINC Synergy Message Boards seem to be busier still. I have the impression that the BOINC Synergy Message Boards are the general, overall, boards for all BOINC-related projects. However, if this were the case, why bother having the others?

Clarification please: have the BOINC Synergy Message Boards become the catch-all boards, or have I formed the wrong impression?

Regards.

Hi David

Orbit is inactive right now and is not accepting new accounts.

See here or here for a list of current projects.

These boards (the BOINC boards) are mainly for issues relating to the BOINC software. Project specific questions we usually redirect to the project message boards (each project has their own).

BOINC Synergy is a team (A group of people with the same interest who have come together to crunch for the same project.) and a very active one at that. But it's not an official set of boards.

Hope this helps.
