Talk:Initialization files for custom installers

I like very much having the TOC float to the right. We could get this done automatically on every page by changing MediaWiki:Monobook.css . I have an example in User:Wormholio/monobook.css that does this. Unfortunately, someone with special privs (eg. Dr. Anderson) would have to make this change, it's not something everyday wiki users can control. --Eric (talk) 13:33, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

I once tried that and it didn't look the same. It puts the TOC floated to the right but after the wiki page introduction.
If you think that still looks acceptable, I believe I have edit permissions on MediaWiki namespace. Nicolas (talk) 14:27, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

I do think that's not just acceptable, but better. Then the page begins with a short summary of what it is about (almost an abstract, if we want), and the TOC shows up at the first section break. (Keeping that introduction short and sweet is also good, BTW.) Moving the TOC to the side keeps the flow of the page intact but gives an overview of what is to come. It seems like the right place for it.

If indeed you can make such changes, then we could post the question to the forum on documentation and try it for a week. Then either keep it or revert, based on popular opinion, or better yet on well reasoned arguments for or against. --Eric (talk) 14:39, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Looks nicer. Thanks. --Eric (talk) 13:08, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
