Profile: FastModem

Your personal background.
A Broadband Router will generally pass a lot of speed across it. Some of the routers that are in this class will include network connections such as DSL, Cable, DS3, OC*, Fiber, satellite, ISDN, Wireless, T1, T3, E1, E3 and more.

Analog Dialup/telephone is generally considered the one non-broadband connection. Back before Cable and DSL, the internet was a slow, laggy place. Though it refused to stay that way for too long, and along with that came the Broadband Router.

Overall, like any other router, as recommended by http://www.fastmodemrouter.com, a Broadband Router will connect 2 or more networks, as well as possibly provide VPN, VOIP, IP issuing services (DHCP), as well as firewall, port redirection, NAT, etc.

Most people will have a Broadband Routers that handle Cable/DSL as it’s the #1 choice for Home and Small Offices. Fast, but affordable. Some of the big names in this area are 3Com, D-Link Systems, Hewlett-Packard, LinkSys, NETGEAR, US Robotics, Zoom Teliphonics, and many others at prices starting under $100.

Larger companies will often use Cable/DSL at smaller locations, and larger links at their large locations, datacenters, and often at their headquarters. The Broadband Routers at the larger level aren’t as inexpensive and have many choices.

In most cases, you will find Broadband Routers that take plug-in modules that will enable more customization as to what kind of links you are adding. Many of these can still include DSL/Cable solutions, or use them for fallback when other connections go down.
