21) Message boards : Questions and problems : BONIC Runtime Error Message keep being received (Message 39836)

Ok, I selected all the projects together and pressed the 'Suspend' button and all were marked 'Project suspended by user'. Selecting all together again and pressing the (now) 'Resume' button, left some still marked as 'Project suspended by user'.

I could send a screen-shot of this problem, if someone could tell me how to, as there is nothing in this thread about sending attachments.

Unfortunately, using the 'Suspend' button has brought up some more problems.

Clicking on this button for each of the projects brings up the message 'Project suspended by User' and the button changes to 'Resume' - ok.

Re-clicking on this button, the button changes to 'Suspend' and some projects change to another message, say 'Suspended - Computer is in Use' or 'Running', but some projects stay as 'Project suspended by user' - why is this?

I have looked at the BOINC Help Manager page, but I can't see why the message stays as 'Project suspended by user'.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

I am using -

(1) Rosetta, (2) Climateprediction, (3) Einstein, (4) LHC, (5) Milkyway, (6) Orbit, (7) SETI, (8) Cosmology - all of which are running.

So, I will have to suspend each one in turn and see which one is causing the problem - I'll let you know.

Thanks, I am using BOINC V.6.12.33.

I have clicked on 'Show Hidden Files & Folders' and can see all the files.

I now have the BOINC's 'Event Log' open and have seen this error message re-appear, unfortunately, there is nothing in the 'Event Log' to tell me what the problem is.

Perhaps 'C:\ProgramData\BOINC\Projects....' needs to be a bit more expanded in BOINC's next Build, to at least identify the project.

Thanks, currently at work, but tried having the Event Open, before the message appeared, when it did, nothing apparent in the Event Log, but will do some more checking.

Actually, I haven't an area called C:\ProgramData\BOINC\, which seems a bit strange - perhaps the system is giving an error message, due to it not finding it.

Currently, I keep receiving an 'Visual C++ Runtime Library' error message.
The message says 'Runtime Error - Program C:\ProgramData\BONIC\Projects....'. I could send a Screen Dump of this message to anybody interested.

Any idea what the problem is?

I have BONIC V6.10.58, for my Windows 7 PC.

How do I change the resources, for (say) 50% each for two projects, to (say) 75%/25%?

I use to be able to change these on my PC in Options or Preferences (or somewhere), but I can't seem to find them.

I'm probably repeating myself somewhat.

On page 'http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/VersionHistory', it is mentioned that 'Version 6.10.44' is the latest version.

However, on page 'http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php', the latest version is given as '6.10.43'.

Perhaps there is a link missing somewhere?

Yes, I am also running my PC 24/7 and I did think that LHC would be sending out work, but not to me apparently.

I am currently running version 6.10.37.

On page 'http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/VersionHistory',
you mention that this is the latest version.

However on page 'http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php', you say the latest version is '6.10.18'.

Perhaps there is a link missing somewhere?
33) Message boards : Questions and problems : Advice on upgrading my BOINC PC (Message 31566)

In a few weeks time I will be upgrading my Windows XP PC (to Windows 7), which I use to run BOINC programmes night & day, when I am not using my PC for more mundane tasks.

One of the things I will be doing is upgrading my Current Processors which are '2x Intel® Core™2 CPU 4300 @ 1.8GHz'.

Does anybody have any advice, which processors would give me optimum BOINC speed/results?

One other query - Is there a way to get notification of replies to my posts, as I can't seem to find any option to do this?

Thanks, have now set Processor use to '0' and installed V6.10.37.

I noticed that 'Preferences' appear in two places and both have a different layouts. As a software engineer, I would rename one of these 'Preferences', as they can be confusing - initially, I opened the other one in error.

I have just installed BONIC 6.10.36 and in my Messages (from BONIC's main page), I keep having the above message displayed. I run BONIC all the time, at night and during the day, whilst I am at work, so I am at a bit of a loss to understand why this message is being displayed. I have only seen this message in the past few days, I think after I installed V6.10.36.

I have checked my CPU usuage and can't see any thing wrong, as it is very low, when I'm not running BONIC, when I am it goes up to 100%.

Just by chance, I logged into Version History and noticed that the latest version is 6.10.18, I have 6.10.17 installed.

Though I have subscribed to Change Detection, the latest e-mail does not show the version update. Or do I have to set this option elsewhere?

Thanks,

I have just downloaded BONIC 6.10.13 and run it. BONIC now runs OK, without any problems. Though, clicking on 'BONIC.EXE' I don't see anything in the CMD window.

I assume that the problem is now solved.

Thanks again.

I just tested with BOINC
6.10.13
, the Beta release candidate. It downloads all of the Cosmology parts without problem for me.

So could you test that version please and see if you can reproduce the crash?

If you look at my last reply, the download shows that a file is missing in Cosmology@Home -

'15-Oct-2009 16:29:39 [Cosmology@Home] Giving up on download of params_092809_220555_2.ini: file not found'

As a software engineer, I'm not really sure an application should crash if a file can't be found, unfortunately it happens all the time.....
