GPU computing

If your computer is equipped with an NVIDIA Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), you may be able to use it to compute faster.

Other platforms

If your computer is not of one of these types, you can

make your own client software or
download executables from a third-party site (available for Solaris/Opteron, Linux/Opteron, Linux/PPC, HP-UX, and FreeBSD, and others).

Linux info

The current release is known to work with these Linux versions:

Fedora Core 7, 8, and 9
Debian 4.1
Ubuntu 7.10, 8.04, and 8.10
Mandriva, Sabayon, Mint, Gentoo, other Debian-based distributions

For other Linux versions, check if a BOINC package is offered by your Linux distribution.

Fedora 7 and higher: type
```
yum install boinc-client boinc-manager
```
as root.
Debian and Ubuntu: package names boinc-client, boinc-manager (more info here). Also boinc-dev (for project developers).
Gentoo: package name sci-misc/boinc

Alternatively, download the BOINC client for older Linux versions. This doesn't have a graphical interface, but it should work on all Linux systems, both x86 and x64.

Ubuntu image for USB/diskless/CD-ROM install

Dotsch/UX is an ISO-format Linux distribution, based on Ubuntu Linux, with the 6.2.15 BOINC client pre-installed. It lets you easily install and boot from a USB stick, hard disk and from diskless clients, and it also has some interfaces to set up the diskless server and the clients automatically. Download the image (515 MB).
