There was a bug involving zero-share projects.
I fixed it, and things seem to work, at least in the simulator: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/scenarios/126/simulations/5/timeline.html

We'll port this to 7.4 and do a new release.

v7.4.32 is now available on the 'download all' page. It installs and runs OK (64-bit Windows), but I don't use the backup project setting. Any testers?

Hi Richard,

I would love to test it, but WCG sent monster BETA's to my machines containing 1 single job in a Workunit, so no checkpointing and running now 14 hours and 50% progress.
Will see tomorrow ;-)

Also, <data_dir> in cc_config.xml has been removed from 7.4.24 and newer.

Good move since it was useless as cc_config.xml is stored there.

Not a good move at all.
It was working perfectly on Windows when using multiple clients.

at that point the t4t server will check the number of cern jobs done and grant credits based on the number of cern jobs done by the vm.

I'm also getting a lot of "not requesting tasks: project is not highest priority", my question is where can you see (and hopefully edit) these priorities?

When you're using Windows and the recommended BOINC version, open een command terminal and change your directory to your boinc data directory.
Enter 2 commands:

find "/master_url" client_state.xml <Enter>

E.g. output:
<master_url>http://boinc.fzk.de/poem/</master_url>
<master_url>http://boincsimap.org/boincsimap/</master_url>
<master_url>http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/</master_url>
<master_url>http://pogs.theskynet.org/pogs/</master_url>
<master_url>http://qmcathome.org/</master_url>
<master_url>http://svahesrv2.bioquant.uni-heidelberg.de/correlizer/</master_url>
<master_url>http://www.primegrid.com/</master_url>
<master_url>http://www.rechenkraft.net/yoyo/</master_url>
<master_url>http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/</master_url>

find "</rec>" client_state.xml <Enter>

E.g. output:
<rec>83.001954</rec>
<rec>600.936335</rec>
<rec>6.321996</rec>
<rec>1.755316</rec>
<rec>16.846063</rec>
<rec>9.625576</rec>
<rec>451.535050</rec>
<rec>5.560163</rec>
<rec>99.535427</rec>

In this example pogs has the lowest rec, that means the highest priority to run or to ask new work.

The next version of BOINC is now ready for public use.

You can download the latest client from here.

Check the release notes and version history for details.

I'm missing info about yes or no 'Protected Application Execution (Service) Installation' for projects using Virtual Machines like you did for the GPU/Windows combination.

app_config.xml is first ignored after a reset of the project.
The mentioned apps should at least once be stored in the client_state.

A bit confusing text in message event "World Community Grid 12 dec 14:19:42 app cep2 not found in app_config.xml"

The app cep2 is in the app_config.xml, but not in the client_state.xml

Backup project, or at least another project outside the most wanted, to fill those instances.

Rob, if you don't mind I'm not a sole WCG-cruncher, so my backup project in my example was SIMAP.
All my projects have an equal resource share.
In my example I expected to get another SIMAP task fetched, but as you said "a filled buffer" is a full buffer, even if a task in the buffer isn't allowed to start.
It's just the user should be aware of this and not use too low buffer sizes when using the max_concurrent or Rom/David could work around in case of idle core(s), that may be used.

@Richard: For me 0.5 resulted in 2 running GPU-tasks.

Will load 7.0.42 as soon as the next checkpoint is written for a CEP2-task. Waiting for hours and hours already :(

Suggestion: Why not reread all app_config.xml's when "read config file".
That way you don't have to restart BOINC.

Hi Richard,

It seems you've the lead with this new feature testing ;)

I discovered a new unexpected feature (7.0.41).
A task that may not start because of the max_concurrent setting, is still counted for the work buffer for other projects.
With a low cache that will lead to idle cores.

Running on a quad 100% CPU/all processors and a low cache of 0.01.
No GPU at the moment.
After the last GPU task ended only 3 CPU tasks running and 1 WCG CEP2 waiting (max 1 and already 1 running).
Because of the estimated time for that waiting task is 11 hours and my low cache, it will not ask work for other projects, so 1 idle core as long as that task isn't started.

Does WCG have any AMD apps these days?

WCG just finished a BETA test rather successful: Beta Test for Help Conquer Cancer - GPU v6.55

During that test I produced only valid results on NVIDIA GT240, ATI Radeon HD 7770 and the AMD A6-4400M APU.

IMO the GPU-application going into production on the WCG Help Conquer Cancer project can't be far away anymore.

The SIMAP project admin/scientist upgraded the result.inc to a bit higher version as you proposed:

Issue solved, hopefully without side effects.

Hello Richard,

I gave them a hint or better said exactly which result.inc to include.

The feature I meant had nothing to do with this 'Aborted by user' issue.
We figured that, although resents should get a shorter deadline, it sometimes happens that a resent gets a longer deadline, when no reliable hosts are available with low workload.
In that case a resent is sent with a longer deadline to a reliable host with an already high workload.

Thanks again.

Because I found another bug in inconsistent deadlines for resents, SIMAP upgraded meanwhile to software version: 25993

Seems not to be a bug, but a feature.

Anyway: using server version 25993 together with client 7.0.33 didn't solve the 'Aborted by user' issue.
The task is cancelled by the server, but the client returns the result with an unknown exit code:

I'm afraid it's up to the SIMAP web administrators to update some more of their code - you could try dropping them a line.

Richard, thanks for answering.

I'll drop them a line, if I understand you right:
The server version doesn't mean automatically, that you also has installed all former source changes,
because your mentioned changes 24964 and 25858 are both lower than SIMAP's server version I mentioned 25897.

Because I found another bug in inconsistent deadlines for resents, SIMAP upgraded meanwhile to software version: 25993

I tested it again with BOINC v7.0.33 on the SIMAP project.
IMO it should be fixed in this version, but it isn't.

SIMAP was running: Server software version: 25897

That's higher then the version Richard mentioned and the client version is also built after the code change.

Thanks Richard for responding.

Don't forget that BOINC client versions 7.0.25 and older are treated well, if a task is aborted by the project and newer clients have this weird issue.
That's why I posted it in the BOINC core client thread.

I hope Rom and/or David will pickup this 'problem'.

It also has a negative influence on the reliability of hosts, I suppose.

Hi Rom, David,

In the newer BOINC versions beyond 7.0.25 the status of by server aborted tasks changed.

Versions 6.10.58, 6.12.33, 6.12.34 and 7.0.25 shows the expected status of ´Cancelled by server´ on the project result pages.
With versions 7.0.27 and 7.0.28 the status is ´Aborted by user´, although I didn´t aborted the tasks, but were surely cancelled by the project,
because the initially sent results were returned to late, but earlier as the resents finished or even started.
