New forum feature may be used for spamming
(Message 10671)
Posted 4 Jun 2007 by Shai Hulud Post: The whole topic isnt just plain black and white. We all have a different definition of things - same with emails and spam. Whenever people can opt-in/opt-out: If I activate the receiving of PMs, I have to live with the consequence that I might receive PMs I dont like. If I dont like PMs I have to disable them. Unfortunately, this option doesnt exist yet - its especially unfortunate for those who dont like receiving them... (Obviously!) Btw: Rytis' planned measures do look very promising! |

Posted 4 Jun 2007 by Shai Hulud Post: In general, I tend to agree with Saenger. On the other hand, this is exactly the pity nowadays: Not even being allowed to ask polite questions. To me its the same like people dont dare to ask an old woman if she needs help crossing the street, cause they are scared to get rejected anyway. Just because so many people are abusing emails, doesnt mean they are all bad! If you look at the definition of SPAM, you're not even allowed to send all your friends an email about a great new website you found. Well, you're not allowed to if you consider all Spam as illegal/bad. So, I do make a difference between good and bad Spam. I also distinguish between good and bad people, good and bad apples, good and bad hobbies, and so on... Its not Misfits fault in the first place in this matter, BOINC simply missed to implement a very important option! Best regards, Steffen |

Posted 4 Jun 2007 by Shai Hulud Post: Just to clarify things a bit: MisFit happened to send the same team invitation to the same person twice (at two different projects). Unfortunately, this issue came up at BOINCSynergy for the first time. I'm sure everybody at BOINCSynergy is against SPAM. And I'm sure others are using the PM system also this way. In this case (Misfit sending PMs) I'm asking all of you to distinguish between polite Team invites (which is possible as long as there is no Opt-In/Opt-Out-Feature) and real SPAM. To make myself clear: You need to install an Opt-In/Opt-Out-Feature as soon as possible. As Saenger said already, this IS a big nono!!! Best regards, Steffen |

Where would I post problems with 5.9.3?
(Message 9400)
Posted 6 Apr 2007 by Shai Hulud Post: I read in another post that this forum is not for development versions of BOINC. So where would I post if there are bugs or problems? (The bug is: The local work cache setting is completely wrong. Workcache and additional workcache set to 1 day each, then it requested: 07.04.2007 00:46:00|Zivis|Requesting 14930006400 seconds of new work  |

Posted 23 Mar 2007 by Shai Hulud Post: I say it again: I wouldnt blame a whole project for its admins behaviour. Sure, in the meantime I cancelled my last remaining wu's and set it to "No new work", but just because I'm really angry. I will calm down, and I hope Mr. Braun will calm down also and everybody else as well. It is certain that Mr. Brauns behaviour is harmful to the image of (t)his project and I truly hope that he will explain himself. (And why should I remove Predictor from my signature? I'm proud of the work I've/my computer has done. It cost me a lot of time, energy and money - as said before) PS: I hope you read this, Mr. Braun: I just bought another 1 GByte of RAM to be able to run those memory hungry wu's. I'm serious, Predictor@Home was the main reason! As one can see from my sig, I just started to support this project... Oh man... |

Posted 23 Mar 2007 by Shai Hulud Post: Predictor is currently not on Berkeley's list of projects and I hope it stays that way. Predictor gives BOINC and the DC community a bad name by condoning the use of hijacked computers. We need to get Predictor shunned by the entire community. For a start, they should be stricken from the lists of all the stats sites so they aren't advertised via credit brag banners in forum sigs. Are there any other sites that promote Predictor that could be contacted with regarding dropping any and all mention of Predictor. Thats over the top! And not helpful! Why banning a whole project just because their admin is acting "weird"? I believe this project is helpful - ok, Mr. Brauns behaviour isnt - but Mr. Braun IS NOT Predictor, imho. |

Posted 23 Mar 2007 by Shai Hulud Post: I've been banned by Mr. Braun until 2038 after asking him why he would censor other people opinions. He deleted threads, many posts and banned many others. All posts abid by the Message Board rules (except one :( ). After being banned I had enough of this overreacting ... person ... and sent an email to Mr. David Anderson. Dont know if its any use, but personally, I had to do it.
I saved many of the deleted posts and I can show that there was no ugly or insulting post whatsoever. Cheers, Shai |
