... Appears the HDDs are in an unreadable state due to having been subjected to 118 degrees centigrade (I just see HDD1 was subjected to 130 degrees C). Internal. Jikes. OUCH! That kind of heat will bake the magnetized iron rust off just about any surface. Wish you luck with the RMA. |

No it shouldn't fail on a 2 year old system, but what was the guarantee period? 3 years on the Shuttle NAS. Also 3 years on both HDDs, but I just saw that one of the two (bought at the same time) has just past October left warranty, the other one is still in warranty until September. I really hate to ask ......... any backups ??? The NAS was the main backup drive for the network. It held all our series, films and music. I still have the old music map on my system (phew, though minus one or two albums, but I downloaded Public Service Broadcasting again :)) and all of Time Team is still on the TV server, but aside from that, it's going to be one hell of a new download. In the mean time been trying to fix things. I put everything back in the NAS (temps are now 121C ;-)) and tried rebuilding the array. The folders are still visible , have always been that, but they're still empty. So tomorrow I'll try hanging them onto the RAID array in the TV server and boot up with that. You never know. |

Bye Alan Rickman, thanks for your films and theater. Bye David Bowie, thanks for your music and films. What a good start of the year. |

January/February is when the majority of people that are about to shuffle off their mortal coil, do so. It's been the same for generations. What a wonderful downer of a thought. signature |

Psychologists say the people with terminal illnesses say, Oh god I can't put up with another year like that, and just give up. Plus the seasonal cold weather also has a part to play. I think a lot of it has to do with post-Holiday dip. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Not a downer, just real life we have to accept. Some people say they're high on life. Why can't others be low on life? Real life can be a real downer. So far I've always gotten over it. So have you, if you're reading this. :) signature |

Good point, David. Real life can be and is a downer often times, and there's nothing wrong with that. Show me a person constantly high on life, and I'll bet something is disguising that person's reality. The problem is when the down time becomes greater than the up time. The problem is when you start losing the argument with yourself. One problem at work has flown the coop, but that leave the problem of replacement. Sigh. |

I have been told that when, perhaps, one starts losing the argument, one struggles and flails a bit. And has Angela in the forums. She is losing her breath, and has banned me yet again for simple infractions,. More than I are calling for her head. Cute idea, the lead sci man having his dear modding. She is far too left to mod anybody. Sad episode in modding history...go now, Angela. Run.............. |

I have been told that when, perhaps, one starts losing the argument, one struggles and flails a bit. Angela didn't ban you. Now take a short rest, and come back in a better frame of mind. No one wants to see you go on a longer vacation than necessary. |

I have been told that when, perhaps, one starts losing the argument, one struggles and flails a bit. Mister Sattler, you flatter me by giving me far too much credit. Your posterior had already been escorted to the time-out chair by one of my esteemed colleagues, well before I had time today to even "check my stories". Still, thank you for informing me, in such a public manner, that you plan to return to the seti boards spoiling for a fight. I deeply regret missing your ban vote earlier today and I look forward to participating, with great enthusiasm, in your next ban vote. |
