Hi all,

I'm running BOINC manager 5.2.13 and successfully attached to the SETI, rosetta and recently Einstein projects. All of these run fine.

The problem is that I have three seperate accounts, one for each project. I thought the idea was to have a single account which is credited for work on one or more projects?

Whenever I use the Attach Project wizard I get as far as the Account Information screen & am faced with the option to create a new account or use an existing one. Creating a new account works ok, but I'd prefer to use an existing one & am unable to do this! I always get the Account Not Found message, which is maddenning because I /know/ the email address and account keys are correct: I already have three of the latter, one each for SET, rosetta & Einstein!

Any thoughts on this, or am I misunderstanding how BOINC is supposed to work?

Finally: is a Cross Project ID the same as an Account Key and why do different projects use different terminology for what appears to be the same field?

Thanks.

Each project is a separate entity so you have to have a separate account for each.

The account key is project specific. The cross project id is to help synch the stats. If you use the same email on each project (and there is one other requirement for multi-system users that i can't remember cause I only run on computer) the cross project id will eventually match.

SOmeone will have to fill in the missing details for you tho.

Each project is independently run at various places around the world and require that you register and attach to it individually. If you look under the Projects tab you will see Account Manager. The account management systems is not yet implemented, but you can get an idea of what the concept is and what they are aiming for in the future here. It gets a bit technical but you will get what they want to do.
The Boinc software is the only commonality between them at the moment. Boinc did not wish to get directly involved with stats keeping, therefore, the CPID is provided so that third party websites like BoincStats can unify the users data. A common email address across the various project facilitates this.
