Will shutting down the computer make it start from scratch? It doesnt say anywhere

1) If you just turn off the computer, then the work units may well crash.
With the cpdn project, the climate models WILL crash.
Always fully shut done BOINC first.

2) For projects that "checkpoint", i.e., save what they're up to now and then, the work units will restart from that position in their calculations.

Seemed weird it had to be on for 125+ hours..

I haven't experience any lost work shutting down the system or even due to system crash in a very long time. Boinc has redundent client_state file which are updated frequently to protect status information. Most project save checkpoints fairly frequently and those that don't should tell you in the project information. The work should just about always continue from the last checkpoint including CPDN, where I've personally never experienced a work unit crash. At most, I loose the work since last checkpoint.
