UAC must be turned on then. When UAC is turned on then the screensaver is launched with restricted rights and not administrative rights. You can get around that by doing this: 1. Launch a command prompt as administrator. You'll know when you've successfully done that as the command prompt window will say 'Administrator:' in the begining of the title. Right-clicking on the command prompt shortcut should bring up a launch as administrator menu item 2. cd \ 3. mkdir temp 4. cd temp 5. c:\windows\boinc.scr This will maunually launch the screensaver. The log files will be in c:\temp. ----- Rom BOINC Development Team, U.C. Berkeley My Blog |

With Jack's help I think I've isolated the problem, or at least one of them. For those of you who are using x64 machines a new screensaver can be found here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boincscr.020409.x64.zip Follow the instructions already specified in this thread to get it installed. To launch the screensaver check out my previous post and change step 5 to: 5. c:\windows\boinc.scr /s I believe this resolves this issue. If not email me back the log files. ----- Rom BOINC Development Team, U.C. Berkeley My Blog |

When will we see the fix built into the new version? I'd like to be able to turn UAC back on to get this annoying icon to go away :) Jack |
