from the front page of SETI@home's web site:

we'll be keeping many database intensive websites offline (like the forums) until some logjams have cleared.

QMC@Home

I just got an email from the admin telling me the server will be going down while there is maintenance on the university's power grid.

Seti@Home is down again. From the server status page it looks like the crew took the main database server offline for debugging or maintenance.

CPDN main project

The disk of upload server cpdn-upload1.comlab has filled up. This machine is a temporary replacement for the server with the same name whose power supply broke and on which other defects couldn't be repaired. The temporary replacement isn't very good machine and has limited disk space. Delivery of the new server that Milo ordered several weeks ago is now overdue. So he's moving data from cpdn-upload1.comlab and the data transfer should be complete on Thursday 16 July.

Until Thursday the situation is as follows:

* All model types should be able to upload trickles normally.

* HadAM3P end-of-model zip file uploads will be affected by the outage. These models upload 3 zip files.
_1 goes to uploaderoerc.ox.ac.uk. This file should upload.
_2 goes to cpdn-upload1.comlab. This zip file cannot at the moment upload.
_3 goes to uploader1.atm.ox.ac.uk. This file should upload.

Our advice is as follows:

* If possible suspend running HadAM3P models before they complete. Do this in the Tasks tab of BOINC Manager. To download new models you will need to temporarily resume the suspended HadAM3Ps because BOINC does not send new tasks to projects with suspended tasks. You may also need in your BOINC Manager Advanced menu > Preferences > Network usage > to increase the additional work buffer to its maximum of 10 days. You will be able to resume and complete the suspended HadAM3P models when the Server Status page shows all three servers listed above as running.

* If you already have HadAM3P _2 zip files stuck in the Transfers tab and unable to upload, please do not press the Retry Now or Abort Transfer buttons. Zip files can remain safely in the Transfers tab for two weeks after the first unsuccessful upload attempt. Suspend BOINC network activity as much as possible until the three servers listed above are all running.

Our apologies for the inconvenience.

CPDN main project

Cpdn-upload1.comlab upload server is up and running. HadAM3P models can be completed and uploaded. Thanks to members for your patience.

Milo has said today 'We've received the new database server but haven't yet got the new storage server. It's sitting in our office and we probably won't be able to carry it to its final destination until Monday.
Once there, I am not sure how long it will take to set up, which will depend on the admins in OUCS [the university computing service]. After that, the project will need to be shut down so that the database can be migrated to the new hardware. I plan to let everyone know at least 24 hours in advance when I know when this will be.'

Members who haven't already done so should subscribe to a CPDN forum News thread eg at the top here to be sure of receiving advance email notification of this future big outage. When CPDN BOINC services are shut down the independent forum will remain open.

It looks like just about every at Seti has ran out of work or failed otherwise, including the database. Let's see who will get in at what time to go fix that, else this could take the rest of the weekend.

Its forums are down due to the database problem as well.
