Ralph servers seem to be completely down for a day and half already.

November 20, 2008
We've just finished an extensive update of both the software and the backend infrastructure. The lengthy down-time was primarily a result of the vast amount of data that RALPH has been able to produce. We appreciate your help with this important part of our application testing and apologize for the longer-than-anticipated outage. -KEL

CPDN main project

CPDN upload server upload1, listed on the CPDN server status page as uploadcomlab, has been giving problems. It has been down since Friday. Milo expects to restart it on Monday in a new more convenient location where it can be monitored more closely and a proper diagnosis/fix put in place.

CPDN main project server climateapps2 is down, which means the website and CPDN-BOINC forum are down. Milo cannot access this server today so unless it spontaneously reactivates itself it will be down until Monday.

CPDN main project server climateapps2 is running again so the CPDN website and forum are back up.

Milo has reinstalled cpdn-upload1 (uploadcomlab) and it's also up and running again. However, on Tuesday he needs to take this server back to its usual inconvenient location because it's so noisy. There will be a further short outage while he moves it. It is fortunate for CPDN that Milo is big and strong.

CPDN server status can be checked here.

27th: Linux systems off at 7:30am - back at about lunchtime.
28th: no outage.

Seti and Seti Beta web sites are down right now. I don't know about the scheduler because I'm not attached to either.

I've notified David and Eric.

Cosmology's at it again.

They actually got work to send out, then promptly crashed.
No access to the site.

CPDN main project

The Atmospheric Physics department have not in fact needed to turn off the power for those servers today, but CPDN uload server uploadatm is down because Milo's copying data from it. These data copying jobs usually take a long time. If your model cannot trickle or upload its zip file, if possible please suspend BOINC network activity.

Cosmology@Home news:

I got an email back from Ben Wandelt on what happened to the Cosmology@Home project.

Ben Wandelt wrote:
Hi -

Thanks for your note - we are aware of the problem. This happened (as it always seems to) just after both Scott, Anshul and I had left town. We have been unable to fix this problem without access to the server.

As soon as we get back to Urbana this will be fixed. I will be back Sunday and I think either Anshul or Scott or both will get back before me.

Primegrid has a challenge running, due to which the site and the project can be unavailable at times. Apache is completely maxed out.

The Challenge runs for 48 hours max, although this could be shortened when no one is getting work anyway.

Cosmology@Home news:

November 29, 2008 Server back up after Thanksgiving outage
Once again, the ghosts in the machine attacked when everybody was out of town for Thanksgiving, rendering the server non-functional until someone could make it back in town. After replacing the network switch and the NIC, and applying a hefty dose of holy water to ward away any further geist attacks, the server is up again.

CPDN main project servers

Climateapps2 was down during the night and uploader1.atm is currently not running so some members will not be able to upload trickles and zip files. Milo's investigating. CPDN server status can be seen here.

CPDN

Later edit. Milo says uploader1.atm is in fact running and accepting uploads. Occasionally the CPDN server status page shows a server down when it is really running.

Leiden Classical is back now.

5 december 2008
Due to an unexpected problem in refreshing the X.509 SSL certificates of our boinc servers, we had issues in bringing up the project. Currently new keys have been generated, new certificates have been signed and apache is up and running again. Sorry for the down-time!

CPDN main project

On Monday 15 Dec Milo plans to upgrade the operating system of the climateapps2 server. There will be an outage of this server only for several hours during the day. While it lasts the CPDN website and CPDN-BOINC forum will be down and the scheduler will not send out new models. Trickle and file uploads will not be affected.

CPDN server status can be checked here.

Later correction to the above item about CPDN's outage on Monday 18 Dec: File uploads will be accepted during the outage but not trickles. To avoid repeated unsuccessful attempts to send trickles, if you can please suspend BOINC network activity before Monday 09.00 UTC.

Pirates@Home

The server is getting hammered at the moment which causes all of the back end to lose focus. Eric is looking into it. So if your uploads aren't going through, you can't download and the forums are nowhere to be seen, then do know it's a known problem and being worked on.

Our scheduling server has crashed and so no work is being distributed. This may not get fixed for a day or two.
