How about BOINC tee shirts, coffee mugs, key chains and other merchandise that would herald some level of participation in BOINC and it's projects?

. . . imagine 'BOINC Millionaire Club' tee shirts, and other promotional merchandise that can only be purchased [at cost, or if a profit is made it would go to BOINC or the projects] by those who have accumulated 100k, 500k, 1M BOINC cobblestones?

. . . how about 100K, 250K, 500K, 1M merchandise available from individual projects?

Imagine the conversations at sporting events, stores and the water cooler that begin with being asked 'What is BOINC?'

I already have a BOINC Coffee mug. :-)
Limited edition, of course.

A lot of us got this one for testing the BOINC software.

There are 2 people working on this at the moment. Jack Shultz of the Hydrogen@home project and Rytis Slatkevičius of the PrimeGrid project. I believe they will be avalable very soon. They were discussing it about 4 or 5 days ago and i believe they are in the process of setting up an online shop for BOINC.

You should tell them about the QMC mugs!

We had some issue with Spreadshirt legal department thinking that we're

We weren't allowed to put BOINC logo in the marketplace, so you can't create
your custom designs with it - if you want anything specific, let me know and
I'll put it in. Oh, and this shop is only shipping to EU, we need to create
similar one in spreadshirt.com, which ships to US.

I'll also create two-color vector logo this evening after work (finally
found a nice free vector editing software - Inkscape), which will enable use
of a different print technique and print on dark fabric.

How about printing the BoincStats (or other stats image) on a plain white T shirt?

You might want to put a date on it too, seeing as the stats change regularly.

Looking in the store of Machinae Supremacy, I see they are also selling shirts specifically for women and children plus they're doing hats, caps and underwear.

Would you buy BOINC underwear if it was available through the BOINC shop?

It sounds like a limited market Jord, but you never know :)

I would imagine that the common stuff would be the best sellers.

In addition to the spreadshirt store for US. I recently created a BOINC store in Cafepress. Here I stick to the standard BOINC logo. Again, I am not receiving any financial return from these purchases, though the company charges for its service.

See what you think about this Hydrogen@Home logo. I have taken a comic book style for it. Maybe you despise it? In that case, give me an idea to run with. Better yet, exercise some of your own artistic talent!

Hi,
Any chance the EU store could have polo shirts similar to those in the US store? Or would they not be profitable enough? I'd certainly prefer a BOINC polo over a T-shirt, but that's just me. I'll be buying a t-shirt anyway if it's not possible.

Edit: Perhaps I should have said 'popular enough' instead of popular. I don't know how these things work and I would obviously not want the store to loose money.

Which polo do you like? The white or black? You should ask Rytis since he established the EU store. As far as being popular, that's not an issue with Spreadshirt. The store will host the site despite popularity, and I don't profit from the sales anyway.

I emailed Rytis who has now very kindly added a white BOINC polo to the EU store.

I fully agree with the idea of checkpoint/cobblestone promotional items. Perhaps they could be self bought from a central place (maybe the spreadshirt stores) using some sort of 'unlock code' - but I'm not sure how that would actually work. Certainly adding some numbers to the items would show there are targets to drive for and might encourage people to stay with the project rather than installing it shortly after hearing about it and then uninstalling a few days later. Having said this, it does seem a little sad that people need further prodding to donate spare clock cycles to worthy causes when it really costs them nothing.

How about a computer badge (analogous to a dash plaque for a car) that recognizes the accomplishments of a particular machine? After all, we are putting these poor things through a lot of heavy use 24/7.

I could also see individual projects awarding badges for specific accomplishments within their project (e.g., finding a prime, completed CPDN simulations).

The badge should be a nice, raised metal item, not just a puny sticker.

World Community Grid and a few other BOINC projects are already awarding badges showing the degree of participation. Generally available only as small images on your computer screen, though.

I currently have aging BOINC T shirts with the sunburst BOINC logo on the front and the URL on the back.

I would like to be able to replace them with the same design in black, as the whites tend to yellow out after repeated washing.

But, not having the URL on the back is what PR people call "wasted real estate".

So, I would like to see that come back and be available on a black T shirt.
