I am trying to make BOINC work on FC8 using the .rpm install of the 5.10 client and manager. When I install it, I get a manager icon. I can start manager successfully. When I attempt to connect to my computer with both boxes blank, it fails. If I select "localhost" and leave the password blank, it fails. The var/lib/boinc folder only contains a ca- plain text file which seems to contain financial encryption information from early 2007. I tracked down the gui text file, which was located in opt/boicd. It could only be opened as root, but it did contain a password. I copied this password to a word document which I then used as the password while attempting to login to "localhost" as a normal user. This also failed. I have noticed that whenever I install boinc, a boinc user is automatically created, though I cannot log in to it. Any help on correctly installing, configuring, finding the password for and logging into BOINC would be appreciated. |

I think to log into the BOINC you first need to su - to get into the root account and then su boinc There's no password on the account, although it's possible to add one. I don't remember how I did it. It was some where in the GUI though. Kathryn :o) |
