I just noticed 5.10.30 does not respect the user's default browser selection. I have mine set to Firefox but when I select anything that requires opening a browser page, BOINC forcibly opens Internet Explorer. This is very, very bad form, and particularly for a product like BOINC. What is the workaround or fix for this?

BOINC follows what Windows says is the default browser. You may have set in Firefox to check that it is the default browser, but did you also tell Windows?

Start->(Settings->)Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs->Set Program Access and Defaults, set Firefox to be the default web browser, click OK. (Windows at times forgets these settings as well, especially after you updated it or Internet Explorer).

Any chance this is Vista giving you the headache?

That's what I used as a work around.

It's actually not BOINC directly. Here's what I found out on the mailing list.

The reason for this is that Vista has a new place for keeping your "current browser" setting, and wxWidgets doesn't know about it.

This is not the problem. Every other application on the computer except Windows Live Messenger and BOINC respects the settings as I configured them for the default browser.

Dave Anderson told me this is a bug in WXWIDGETS. Someone needs to correct this.

Unfortunately, the post doesn't explain how to get to that dialog in the first place. My Set Program Defaults control panel does not show a Custom option. I am using Windows Vista Ultimate. Also, everyone else but Live Messenger and BOINC respects my default browser setting. ??

Well, can you post a screen shot when you do

start | Default Programs (under control panel)

then i believe you want to select the option "Set program access and set defaults for this computer

choose custom, and expand it and make your changes accordingly, so that it is no longer set to use IE.

It's not a bug in BOINC. It's a bug (feature?) in WxWidgets which BOINC uses for the GUI. You need to be complaining to the WxWidgets programmers.

I had the same problem. I think everything but Trillian and BOINC obeyed the preference to use Firefox.
