I have 1 windows xp pc running boinc. For some reason its work buffer is different that others. It only downloads 1-3 workunits at a time (from 5-6 projects). My 2 other machines have 10-15 workunits for the same set of projects. I have tried to reset the preferences on the client, etc but no luck.

Is there anyway to reset these this client with out complete uninstall/reinstall?

It seemed to work before but the last 5 months its been this slow 1 unit at a time pace.

Can be a number of things like the amount of uptime in a day, the CPU efficiency, The Durations Correction Factor, Does it only work when idle, Is the screensaver eating CPU time but to name a few. Could also be your connect frequency. If short, it will upload more often, thus fetch more frequent to back fill the buffer.... is it attached to the same venue/device profile (home/school/work/default)?

All three of my machines are running 5.10.30, the same set of projects, and the same preferences. This 1 machine only gets 1 or 2 WU's my others have 26-30.
They are all using the same global preferences. It should not be different.

I even tried manually setting preferences to 8 days for that 1 machine with no change in behavior. I tried "resetting" all the projects individually but no change. its weird.

Go to any of the project's web sites, look up that computer and post the numbers here for:

% of time BOINC client is running
While BOINC running, % of time work is allowed
Average CPU efficiency
Result duration correction factor

Well, there's your problem. You can edit that value in client_state.xml to make it something more reasonable. Make sure to shut down BOINC before you do and make a backup if you're super paranoid.

BOINC gods are picking on you??? :-)

Seriously, I don't know. It's never happened to me, but I've seen numerous reports on the various project boards about it. Maybe someone who understands how BOINC and/or computers work will be able to explain it.
