I keep my general preferences set to "Suspend work while computer is in use? = yes". And then on the machine itself, I select (via BOINCmgr) "Activity -> Run Always", so I can turn it off if necessary.

I just installed 5.10.13 on a new windows machine. Twice now, after quitting and restarting BOINC, the setting has reverted to "Run Based on Preferences". This doesn't happen every time. But it shouldn't ever happen, right? Where is this setting stored? Maybe I have a corrupt file or something.

It shouldn't revert. Mine seems to be sticking.

As for where... client_state.xml

Looks like

<user_run_request>1</user_run_request>


Where
1 = always
2 = based on preferences
3 = suspend


It's about 10 or 15 lines from the bottom.
