The BOinc software seems to work fine on my machine but when the cool screensaver comes on if fails to load. If I go to the propertys of the scr file and click on preview the screensave works perfectly, but if it comes on itself will not load?????

I have tried everything you noted. I get a blinking screen which ultimately just goes to black. I need to solve this because I use the scfreen savewrs to attract people in my company to crunching.

My machine is Vista Business. My video card in nVidia GeForce Go7900, and I have the lastest drivers.

Any help will be appreciated.

Here's what I wrote to the alpha list...

The screensaver does not work for me at all under Vista.

Case 1: Set screensaver to BOINC. Set 1 minute delay. Check "display log in screen on resume". Turn of monitor after 2 minutes. The screensaver never starts. It goes directly to the log on screen and powers down at the end of 2 minutes.

Case 2: Set screensaver to BOINC. Set 1 minute delay. Uncheck "display log in screen on resume". Turn off monitor after 2 minutes. The screensaver never starts. It powers down after 2 minutes.

If you try to preview the screensaver, in the box where I used to see a static BOINC logo (after selecting BOINC from the drop down menu) I only see an image of my desktop. Better to show a screen cap... http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f287/KSMarksPsych/vistaboincscreensaverproblem_Active.gif

So, here is possibly some news on the blinking. I am not sure yet, it has been just about 24 hrs of no problems on my Vista Business Dell M1710 laptop:

Dell sent down a new BIOS.

I installed the bios, and, seemingly the problem has not recurred. Of course, who knows? But one can hope.

Well, not all Vista. My Vista Home Premium machine is running the screen savers fine for three projects on BOINC. Surpising to me, my two older PIII WinXP HOme machines, with CPU's around 1 gig plus and minus, 512 megs of DRAM and 133 FSB are running all projects, with screen savers, just fine.

On my Vista Business machine, I have tried just everything under the sun, even eliminating some projects and trying others. Everything will be fine for a few hours of work and idle time. Then, I hit the mouse and see black, mand a blink, and black...

Screen savers for me are a selling tool to get others in my work space to sign on to "crunching". Believe me, it works. I have some on a Rutgers University team on World Community Grid projects, and some on Spread Firefox on BOINC projects.

I sure hope this gets worked out. I tired to find others with the same problems on these forums with a search. All I found was us.

Rom has said that graphics should (in theory) work properly on Vista with the first 6.x.y release. But that's not expected for a while. We're still working to get 5.10.x out the door.
