Why is Google attached to my Boinc?

Boinc v5.8.16
From cmd netstat -0:

TCP xxxx:1069 localhost:31416 ESTABLISHED 292
TCP xxxx:31416 localhost:1069 ESTABLISHED 1720
TCP xxxx:4384 boincsrv02.cern.ch:http LAST_ACK 1720
TCP xxxx:4553 mc-in-f104.google.com:http ESTABLISHED 1720
TCP xxxx:4568 boincsrv02.cern.ch:http CLOSE_WAIT 1720

PID 1720 is Boinc.exe.

If boinc has trouble connecting to a project site, it tries to work out whether it is connected to the internet by pinging google.

If you look in the Boinc messages log, you'll see a comment such as 'access to reference site OK' when it does it.

That makes some sense but it has been doing that, furiously, for the last 8+ hours. There is some problem connecting with the SETI Beta site tonight so that may be why, I've just never noticed it before. I have no 'site OK' messages in the log, I do have "Project communication failed" for SETI Beta though, many times.

I just installed Azureus and ran it tonight (to get a replay of a TV show), maybe there's some conflict with Boinc although Boinc's been running the whole time and reporting and downloading as usual.

I did just shut down Azureus and disabled the port for Azureus and the network activity seems to have stopped. Boinc complained when I reset the router but it's running normally now.

<EDIT - a little later> I think it actually was Azureus and not Boinc that was having a problem. Boinc still has the Google connection but is not pinging. I think the activity was the fault of Azureus even though it was shut down and not running. I think it was either the trackers (or other peers) still talking to my computer even though they're supposed to stop after about 5 minutes. What's confusing is that netstat does not show any such connection after Azureus is shut down.
