When checking the http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php
page for updates to BOINC/Windows 5.8, I notice that the Version Details for 5.8.15 (Recommended) and 5.8.16 (Testing only) are identical, and appear to be unchanged from the original public release of BOINC/Windows 5.8. If there are no changes to the version details, why are you working on the 16th variant?

I'll stick my neck out and opine that most users would like a brief description of enhancements and bug fixes introduced from one third level update to the next, listed on your website and/or in a distribution readme file. I believe this issue has been raised before in this same forum.

Best wishes.

Version details used to say what changed between point releases on 5.4.x, but on 5.8 they don't seem to care about that. It was never modified. The current version details say what features were added between 5.8 and previous versions, but you can't tell differences between 5.8.1 and 5.8.2.

A "raw" list of changes may be found here, but you can't tell when a version was released. There's also some changes that go to a "branch", or was disabled when compiling the official version, so even though it was added a month ago it may have never been on a release.

The changes between versions are posted to the alpha testers group on the alpha email list. It may be a lure to get you to sign up for the Alpha email list, or the alpha group. ;-)

Later today I'll put up the change logs from the 5.8.x series.

They'll be in a sticky in the Core Client Forum.

But as Jord said, the alpha list is the place to get the inside scoop on the latest and greatest (errrr... buggiest??).

This is now up here.

It starts with 5.7.4 (which was the earliest change log I could find in my archives). I'll update it as new versions are released.
