-The new version starts two instances of Microsoft Internet Explorer when you click on a button. -Not enough work because of new work fetch policy Does anyone have the same problems? I see 5.8.8 as a step back, because in 5.8.6, a test version, you could sort e.g. by RAC. That's like 5.2.7(?) with the very useful "Update all projects"-button, which dissappeared in official release. |

The sortable columns will be back for the next public release. It's my understanding that the decision was made that they couldn't be debugged in time for this release. What version of IE? I'm not having any trouble with Firefox and when I switched my default browser to IE 7 it only opened one instance. If I get a chance I'll test it on my brother's computer which still has IE 6 installed. Kathryn :o) |

I see 5.8.8 as a step back, because in 5.8.6, a test version, you could sort e.g. by RAC. That's not a step back, the sortable columns worked horribly bad, and boincmgr.exe used a lot of CPU while you were doing just whatever with it. It's a good step that they removed the new columns (which internally were completely different) until they had them working correctly and fast. |

What version of IE? I just replicated this with IE6 on my brother's XP Pro box. I'll report it to the developers (if it hasn't been already, I'll have to go through my email....) Kathryn :o) |

Just installed 5.8.8 and discovered that it reports to a project that my cpu type supports [fpu,tsc,sse,sse2,mmx], while a CPU-Z software report lists [mmx,sse,sse2,sse3]. Why the discrepancy with sse3? What is tsc? |

Why the discrepancy with sse3? What is tsc? Boinc reports what the OS tells it. Boinc doesn't query the system itself at this time. Windows XP does not report SSE3 or SSSE3. Older version of Windows will report even less. |

This little quirk doesn't affect functionality... If you right click BOINC in the task bar and select snooze, a nice little pause icon shows up on the "B". I like it. However, if you right click BOINC again, you'll notice that "snooze" does not have its traditional toggle check mark. Was the check mark taken away? If so, then I recommend changing "snooze" to "wake up". :) I was told this happens in 5.8.6 as well. |

TSC stands for Time Stamp Counter, which is an additional methos to further improve the accuracy of the speed measurement of the CPU. All Pentium class CPUs have this. |

This little quirk doesn't affect functionality... I second that. Noticed since quite old 5.8's. |

I just upgraded to this version from 5.4.11. After having the program run for about an hour (with the screensaver turned off) I get the manager having a problem talking to the client and asks if I want to retry communications. When I look at the task manager, none of my tasks are running. When I say yes, then everything is running like it restarted on me. Here is my log after it started again: 2/5/2007 1:14:28 PM||Starting BOINC client version 5.8.8 for windows_intelx86 2/5/2007 1:14:28 PM||log flags: task, file_xfer, sched_ops 2/5/2007 1:14:28 PM||Libraries: libcurl/7.16.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8a zlib/1.2.3 2/5/2007 1:14:28 PM||Data directory: D:\\Program Files\\BOINC 2/5/2007 1:14:28 PM|PrimeGrid|[error] State file error: result 9a[×ÖqÑA xìÚÖqÑAð=qÝÖqÑAXQ~çÖqÑA¸ not found 2/5/2007 1:14:28 PM||Processor: 4 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.00GHz [x86 Family 15 Model 6 Stepping 4] [fpu tsc pae nx sse sse2 mmx] 2/5/2007 1:14:28 PM||Memory: 2.00 GB physical, 5.84 GB virtual 2/5/2007 1:14:28 PM||Disk: 54.96 GB total, 51.15 GB free 2/5/2007 1:14:28 PM|rosetta@home|URL: http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/; Computer ID: 407632; location: (none); project prefs: default 2/5/2007 1:14:28 PM|PrimeGrid|URL: http://primegrid.com/; Computer ID: 22874; location: home; project prefs: default 2/5/2007 1:14:28 PM|SETI@home|URL: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/; Computer ID: 3057478; location: (none); project prefs: default 2/5/2007 1:14:28 PM||General prefs: from PrimeGrid (last modified 2007-01-30 08:58:35) 2/5/2007 1:14:28 PM||Host location: home 2/5/2007 1:14:28 PM||General prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults 2/5/2007 1:14:28 PM||file projects/primegrid.com/llrTPS_954961_0.out not found 2/5/2007 1:14:28 PM|PrimeGrid|[file_xfer] Started upload of file llrTPS_954961_0.out 2/5/2007 1:14:28 PM|PrimeGrid|Restarting task 4409067|8086755|llrTPS_954962_0 using llr version 505 2/5/2007 1:14:28 PM|PrimeGrid|Restarting task 4409068|8086760|llrTPS_954963_0 using llr version 505 2/5/2007 1:14:28 PM|PrimeGrid|Restarting task 4409310|8087182|llrTPS_955047_0 using llr version 505 2/5/2007 1:14:30 PM|PrimeGrid|[file_xfer] Permanently failed upload of llrTPS_954961_0.out 2/5/2007 1:14:30 PM|PrimeGrid|Giving up on upload of llrTPS_954961_0.out: File not found on client 2/5/2007 1:14:33 PM|PrimeGrid|Sending scheduler request: To report completed tasks 2/5/2007 1:14:33 PM|PrimeGrid|Reporting 1 tasks 2/5/2007 1:14:38 PM|PrimeGrid|Scheduler RPC succeeded [server version 507] |

2/5/2007 1:14:28 PM|PrimeGrid|[error] State file error: result 9a[×ÖqÑA xìÚÖqÑAð=qÝÖqÑAXQ~çÖqÑA¸ not found That looks like you have a corrupt client_state.xml file. Please exit BOINC immediately (completely) and restart it. It may already be too late for the Primegrid results, but not necessarily for the other results. |

Please uninstall BOINC through Add/Remove programs, then reboot and reinstall BOINC 5.8.8 to the same directory you uninstalled from. Let's see if that calms your computer down. |

Uninstalling BOINC from Add/Remove programs won't delete XML files. If his client_state is corrupted... |

Uninstalling BOINC from Add/Remove programs won't delete XML files. If his client_state is corrupted... ...could then resetting PrimeGrid help? (If the rest of client_state.xml is OK, otherwise Notepad?) Peter |

Uninstalling BOINC from Add/Remove programs won't delete XML files. If his client_state is corrupted... Yes to both questions. Although hopefully resetting wouldn't cause BOINC to crash when trying to delete that corrupted-named result... |

Although hopefully resetting wouldn't cause BOINC to crash when trying to delete that corrupted-named result... I'm not so sure it was a corrupt result(name). Anyway, before testing all the other things, I askd Rom what to do first. He said to uninstall and reinstall first. If the result got corrupted somehow in client_state.xml, it should've been picked up by the CC restarting. As it would then have read CS_prev.xml And yes, the CC did restart. Follow the link he gave. It was a CC error, not an app error. |

Running 5.8.8 (Seti@Home and Einstein@Home) on an IBM Tablet PC running Windows XP...my screen saver sort of flashes on and off, staying on for only a 1/2 second...then stays off for a few seconds, then flashes again...and keeps this up. Screen saver never stays on as it used to. Should I uninstall 5.8.8 and use an older version or is this a Tablet PC problem? I have not experienced it opening IE (7.0.5). |
