I'm sure I did the version history yesterday, but perhaps I didn't save that. Fixed now! The release notes are there as well, they're just not forwarded to the new correct ones, a little thing I asked David to do yesterday as well... and he didn't. https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Release_Notes_for_BOINC_7.10 |

I have had nothing but trouble since downloading 7.10.2. Boinc runs, but when I leave the boinc window, I can't get back to it except by using the download file to repair the software. |

Windows 10 pro, version 1803I thought that might be the case. Microsoft has been playing around with the display of icons in the notification area, and version 1803 seems to be the worst case yet. Even the up-arrow to 'Show hidden icons' doesn't show the BOINC Manager icon any more - but it's running. All is not lost. This site seems to have a comprehensive set of options: https://winaero.com/blog/always-show-tray-icons-windows-10/ I've tested them under 1803, and they still work. Perhaps the neatest is pressing the Win + R keys on the keyboard to open the 'Run' command dialog, and pasting shell:::{05d7b0f4-2121-4eff-bf6b-ed3f69b894d9}into the box: that opens the Windows 7 style customisation page, and you can set the BOINC Manager behaviour to 'Show icon and notifications'. BOINC Manager does have to be running for it to show in the customisation list. I had my machine set to show icons before the 1803 update, so I haven't been able to test every part of the process: perhaps you could let us know how you get on. |

I can now get to Boinc using the "show hidden icons" button. |

I can now get to Boinc using the "show hidden icons" button. By default Windows seems to make it's own decisions as to what is shown in the taskbar, if you wish to get the Boinc icon visible, then: Right click anywhere on the taskbar, this will bring up this menu: Then click "Taskbar settings" and on the next page scroll down to "Select which icons appear on the taskbar" And make sure that Boinc is "On" |

We're going to have to keep an eye on this one. I think (but I can't prove it) that immediately after 1803, BOINC Manager didn't appear in that list. Since then, there's been one more monthly rollup (but not a full version upgrade), and now it does. There has been discussion about this issue in the BOINC developer community, and support from at least one of the 'senior' developers for setting the visibility switch via the installer when a new version of BOINC is deployed. Has anybody come across documentation about how that value is memorised by Windows? (My guess would be a GUID registry value). And given that Windows itself can only change it when the application is running, could it be set at installation? Does anyone have any example of any other applications which set their own visibility? Later: I've been reading through MSDN, specifically https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd378460(v=vs.85).aspx#notification https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee330740(v=vs.85).aspx#install_icon The latter contains Each icon in the notification area can be identified in two ways:Our icon (in code) doesn't seem to have a GUID - the handle seems to be retrieved at runtime. That should make it compatible with Vista, but unknown at installation time. Um. |

I haven't updated to 1803 yet. Remind me to check the list after I have updated. From your first link All notification icons are now hidden by default and that visibility cannot be programmatically controlled. Only the user is allowed to choose which notification icons appear on the taskbar. The best we might be able to do is provide a link to the settings app somewhere. |

I think there's something wrong with the installation package : I upgraded the 64 bits version from 7.8.3 to 7.10.2 on 4 machines, 3 had no issues (they're all upgraded to Windows 10 1803), but I can't upgrade on one of them. I don't know if there's a link, but this machine didn't upgrade to 1803 so it's still using Windows 10 1709 ... The downloaded package successfully decompresses the installer package, asks for installation options (folders and so on), uninstall previous version, but when it comes to install the new one, it complains that it can find the installer package (BOINC.msi) and prompt for manual selection. When I select the package, it claims that it's not a valid installer package and refuses to continue. I had to revert this machine to 7.8.3 which "repaired" installation fine. |

I had to revert this machine to 7.8.3 which "repaired" installation fine.If you did that by reinstalling 7.8.3, then the problem is now fixed. The problem happens when Windows gets confused about which BOINC.msi package to use, because it's lost the vital information of where it parked it. We've had this problem about forever on Windows, there's a whole long, long FAQ on this and similar errors. But if you reinstalled 7.8.3, the link with the correct BOINC.msi has been restored and you can now install 7.10.2 |

No, it's still broken when I try to install 7.10.2 over 7.8.3 on this machine ... edit : I tried again the whole process of repairing 7.8.3 installation and then installing 7.10.2 and it finally worked ... |

Manager was on the list right after 1803 upgrade and still is after installing cumulative update. I don't have an icon in taskbar but that's because I'm using self compiled Manager which has a bug that makes it not have taskbar icon. I was going to install the official 7.10.2 before upgrading but I goofed up and the upgrade started in less controlled fashion than I had planned. |

Version 7.10.2 of the BOINC client software has been released. It incorporates many bug fixes; ... I believe it introduced a few as well. I've noticed that none of the columns correctly sort when you click on the column header (I only run Seti@Home, so might be project specific). This seems to be the case for all of the columns I display in Manager: Progress, Status, Elapsed, Remaining (estimate), Deadline, and Application. Windows 10 64 bit ver 1803 / build 17134.81 |

This seems to be the case for all of the columns I display in Manager: Progress, Status, Elapsed, Remaining (estimate), Deadline, and Application. FIXED: I recently also updated to BOINC 7.10.2 on my laptop as well and the column sorting still works. Running the same version of Windows on both computers, so had a bit of a mystery on my hands. The only major difference between running on the laptop and the tower I have would be the screen resolution -- 1920x1080 Intel 620 graphics vs. 3840x2160 Nvidia 1060 graphics. So I tried changing the tower's resolution to 1080p and restarted BOINC. That actually fixed the problem. I reverted back to 4K on the tower and the column sorting still works. So an quick and easy fix, but still something that someone might want to look into at some point. |

The screensaver no longer starts up automatically (and I cannot see how I get it to start). Also, when I click on "Options/Read Config File" there is no indication that anything is happening or has happened. If I DO start the screensaver externally, it shows as a "solid" application window running in the foreground, not as a screen saver as such, and it also states that applications are running (when they are actually suspended due to user activity). Very annoying not having the screen saver working. |
