Is CPU usage throttling implemented yet in version 5.4.11 ? I downloaded this version earlier today and installed it. I have CPU usage limited to 50% in Boinc's Preferences, but it is still running at 100%. I have tried clicking the update button to force the software to get my most recent preferences, and have tried shutting down and restarting the program. |

It's available in 5.6.x, which is soon available. |

Thanks to both for your responses. Nothing really wrong with the version I am running then. Hadn't heard that there was a version 4.6 coming up soon. Whatever happened to 4.5? I saw it listed on a version list on the web site, but have never seen it available for download. |

Boinc adopted the Linux numbering scheme In the version number ?.x.? if x is even, it is a public release, if x is odd, then it is a beta release. So you will only see even number releases on the download. |

It's available in 5.6.x, which is soon available. Any word on approximately how soon? I'd love to run BOINC projects on my notebook, but it overheats after a while at 100% CPU usage. Also, the BES software that the BOINC site recommends does not automatically start and control processes when Windows starts, necessitating that I open up the BES program and select each BOINC process I run every time I restart my computer. I can see how that would be perfectly acceptable when you're running your BOINC projects on a server, but it doesn't seem very practical for a home user. Maybe there are some settings I'm missing. But I digress. I would really love to run BOINC on my notebook and I would imagine others would as well. If only there were a few more working customizable options to accommodate those who aren't as confident in their machines' cooling power. So naturally I am looking forward to 5.6.x. |

By the way, it is possible to run BES from the Start folder with a specific program listed in the command line. I found out how to do it from the programmer's web site. I'm looking forward to the 5.6x as well, though, becaase I don't like having oodles of little appplets rnning all the time. |

It's available in 5.6.x, which is soon available. It's abandoned but available from http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php. |

Abandoned? You mean they have no intention of releasing it for general use? That would be dissapointing. From the download page, it sounded like it was simply a beta version still in testing. |

In a way it is, but it will see the daylight in BOINC 5.8 (with the new simple GUI). The alpha testers are waiting for Boinc 5.7.1 to come out for them to test, so 5.8.x can come out reasonably fast after that. And just so we don't have to test two versions (5.6.5 was still tested), the devs abandoned the 5.6.x range. |

Givin past experience with BOINC developers, how long are we talking here... weeks, months, before release? |

Your guess is as good as anyone else's. ;-) The new GUI is completely new code and I suspect everyone want it to be as bugfree as possible. Since we're still waiting for the first test version, (Rom said he tried for a Saturday release... that was this weekend... still nothing to date ;)), I won't give a guess. Sorry. :) |

It's available in 5.6.x, which is soon available. Wonderful. I can throttle my CPU with the 5.6.5 in the meantime until 5.8.x comes out. Thanks for the link. |

...Or not. It still doesn't work. |

...Or not. It still doesn't work. You did uninstall BES/Threadmaster? And if you are testing this on Seti... you do know that Seti has problems with updating its preferences at this moment? See this thread for workarounds. |

...Or not. It still doesn't work. BES isn't targeting any processes at the moment. I do not have Threadmaster installed. And if you are testing this on Seti... you do know that Seti has problems with updating its preferences at this moment? See this thread for workarounds. I suppose that is the problem. Thanks for the info. |
