My notebook is using Intel T1300 CPU and I am running 3 projects: Seti, Rosetta, and Einstein. I have set all 3 projects to use no more than 45% of my CPU(from the projects general setting), but they all still use more than 85% of my CPU when I am not using my notebook. Is there anyway to force BOINC to stop using this much of my CPU. |

Projects that have updated their server software show it on your prefs page. Kathryn :o) |

Thanks answering my question. The project preference pages works fine (I think). Whenever I changes the cup usage settings, they alsway show a message telling me that the settings have been updated. However, I can't see the changes in my boinc client, nor the Windows Task Manager. This is the reason I post this question here ^_^ You have mentioned that thit option will only be available in 5.6.x or later. It looks like I have to wait for quite a long time. T_T |

We've been testing a pre-release client for the past 2 weeks. If it didn't give too many errors amongst the testers, there's a good chance that 5.6.5 will be released soon to the public. |

This will be a great deal. I got tired of having to clean out my PCs and replace the fans every couple months so I have shut down Boinc. With laptops the problem is even worse as its not easy to clean them or replace the fans. Once this feature is available I will be thrilled to put my computers to work. I hope this feature will work for P4 also and not just the multi core CPUs. I am happy to test for you guys. You have mentioned that thit option will only be available in 5.6.x or later. I am really pleased at this feature. As I said before, without it I wouldn't run BOINC on my laptop, for the fans in full blast is quite annoying. Now that I'm running the 5.6.5 client on it, it just hums along crunching... However, let me suggest that perhaps the preferences "On multiprocessors, use at most x processors" could be combined into "Use at most x percent of CPU time", biased towards using up processors first. For example, 50% on a 2 processor system would be only 1 processor at 100% and 33% on a 4 processor system would be 1 processor at 100% and another at 33%. Thanks. |
