Well this is my connection I can't say I need any more. As you are aware I can stream the Railstream cameras at HD. I find quite often that it seems the websites I use are the problem not my speed. I am part of a broadband monitoring system here in the UK, they sent me a box I attach to my router and it monitors my connection 24/7 and my speed hardly varies from what you see above. The nice thing I have found is that having a fast upload speeds up things like Photobucket which is important to me. However as has been said for normal use you would probably not notice much difference as the websites would have to be able to keep up. |

Well, we sure had fun last night. One after another thunderstorm passing directly over. Looks like you weren't the only one. From the BBC: Google loses data as lightning strikes Google says data has been wiped from discs at one of its data centres in Belgium - after it was struck by lightning four times. I'm sure the NSA will let them have if back if they ask nicely. |

Google loses data as lightning strikes The problem with that is the NSA has the data in unencrypted format and Google needs it in encrypted format to restore it. |

Sigh. Mom called this morning, she had stomach pains and wanted to call the doctor. Fine with me. Fifteen minutes later she called again, could I bring her to the doctor? Sure... It is no hours later, we are in the emergency room, have been here for the last 4 hours. Finally the surgeon is here. Mom should still get an MRI and honestly I hope they keep me here. Yes, just as I wrote that we got confirmation that mom has to stay. Acute inflammation of part of her large intestine, can only be cured with rest. So... That was a fun jubilee for me, spending lots of my 8th alcohol free anniversary in the hospital. Yay! Celebrate good times come on! |

Took till 21.30h before mom was admitted and all questions were answered. I did make a dash home and back again to get her some clothes and her medicines. Am now home, just ate and am going to play a little Duke Nukem 3D, then off to bed. |

We have been to the hospital again today (and yesterday, and Friday), after my Mom called at 7am to say she didn't have clean underwear anymore. Then she called again at 10am, and again at 10:15am. Thank the deities I'd gone to bed at a reasonable time last night, normally in the weekends I go on till deep in the night, but since this happened I'm bone tired. So I was awake at 7am, and 10am, and 10:15am. ;-) On Mom,I must say, it might be going better with her inflammation, but when she's released from hospital it'll have to be directly into an old people's home, or when going home, she'll need 24 hour care. At the moment she cannot go to the toilet alone, she cannot get dressed, she can hardly walk, hardly stand. Even sitting is difficult, and she also tends to fall out of bed. Her hospital bed is almost on the ground, and there's a big gym mat in front of it in case she manages to fall out. I've never seen someone go backwards that quickly. She won't make it out if she continues these backwards slides. But then, perhaps that's for the best. |

Hello Jord So sorry to hear about all this. It's just so familiar now. The few people left in my church are mostly on the elderly side, and they keep disappearing. They'd be at church one Sunday, and then the next I'd hear that they were in hospital. A week or two later, I'd find out that they were now in an aged care home. This has just happened with another person. And our minister reached retirement age a couple of years ago. Then early this year we were told that his wife now has motor neuron disease. One can only hope that none of them suffer too much. |

Jord I am so sorry to hear about your mum :( I'm not inexperienced in the matter of much-loved but wobbly-legged and wobbly-memoried mum's - so PM when/if you need to :) I took my mum out of a care facility recently because her ending up in it was not a decision I was given any part in, and because of the distances and costs involved in trying to visit her. Because of her alzheimers, she seemed to go downhill so rapidly once she was in there and away from her familiar surroundings. She's picked up considerably now she's back home with me. It may only be short-lived though. She's not as physically dependant as your mum - so the situation is naturally going to be very different. If 24hour nursing care isn't affordable, try to make sure she's in a home near to you. Whatever you can do to lessen the load on your shoulders will be the right thing for both of you :) On a brighter note - apparently - *astonished blink at newly discovered anniet superpower* - I am to blame for my mother-in-law's bedroom ceiling collapsing in on her this morning. And from a completely other part of London too! *pause for impressed murmurs to die down* My view is that, when she had a new roof put on a few years ago - and paid them upfront - and they did nothing except cart off all the lead pointing that was kind of important to stop it from leaking - it helped. My powers I mean. She's fiiiine. It missed her. :) |

Anyway, now that that's over, got a question for all ya's. Okay, I checked. http://www.xfinity.com/internet-service.html does offer 2000 Mbps for $299.95/month. You may have to click "show more" once or twice to find it on that page. So yes, I heard it correctly. As all of you point out, it *is* just as ridiculous as I thought. [edit] I just ran Ookla here at work. It says we have AT&T and I got 94.87 Mbps download and 95.27 upload. [/edit] Jord, sorry about your mom. I was in that situation a few years ago and it's not fun. signature |
