The significance surrounding the last quote from the film is actually quite exceptional.
It was not rehersed, it was not scripted.
The first few lines were in the scrips, and Rutger took it from there.

Interesting interview.

At least if you love the flick as much as I do........... No kitties I l have found in it.

My significance on this planet, and this project, shall I suspefct be short noted.
The project has some significant advances coming soon.

I might not be her to fully realize their implementation.

Life,. as i now know it, is drawing to it's intevitable end.

If I pass, you shall see the crunchers go down one by one, as tjer sja;; be mpbpdu there to reboot them.

I suspect a couple of them shall go on for months after I pass./
Some, a couple of days//.``

Lori shall find me dead and cold one day. And the computers hot as iron.\
She has instructions for care of the kitties.
And she shall.

I have given her logon passwrods, and whether she uses them or not at that point, I donot know.

I suspct she may be so guilt ridden by that point, she may just pull the kitties and burn it to the ground.
She WILL save the kities.

It appears your temp ban is over already.

I expect so.

Considering that the UCB is supposed to be a University campus, they are woefully ignorant of how to run power supplies, internet connections, computer centres and other services on their site. If they were a commercial outfit, they would have gone out of business a long time ago. But Seti are stuck with it, and the Colo, and to be fair they are better off than they were with the previous server closet. They worked miracles there for so long it was amazing.

I just wish Seti could leave the UCB and be set up with with a new purpose built lab somewhere else with proper funding. But it is only a pipedream and it will never happen of course.

And of course Einsten is no stranger to this either. What is it with Unis???

Project downtime Apr 30 - May 1 night
Due to urgent electrical maintenance work on the UWM physics building Einstein@Home will not be available during the night from Apr 30 to May 1. The power outage is scheduled from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM Milwaukee time (CT), which should be 3:00 to 11:00 (AM) UTC. This will certainly affect the website and some other project services.

Don't bitch at UCB over this outage, this one is SETI's! UCB told Seti the work did not involve their racks. Seti decided not to believe UCB. That's why they took it down, unless we aren't being told the real reason it is down perhaps to run some special kit.

Well good we have the outage. That way I could go figure out why my GPU fan speed wouldn't go above 30% when under load. Last night I was playing Just Cause 2, and when the GPU was running at 71C the fan was making quite some noise... but still only at 30% fan speed.

Speedfan would only allow the speed of the GPU fan to go above that when I manually increased it. As soon as I closed Speedfan, back to 30%.

It was AMD's Catalyst Control Center that had the Overdrive on by default, which would not allow the fan speed to increase. I don't know why. Disabled Overdrive and immediately my fan speed increased. Since it's all of a sudden summer over here and the next week they expect 30C and more, I'd want good cooling. Especially since I haven't decided yet what new case I want, so I can change over to the water cooling for my CPU. I cannot decide between another Aerocool case or a Cooler Master case.

But anyway, fan speed is now at 58%. So managed to fix that.

Fun detail on the water cooling in my TV server. The other day I noticed that I'd put the fan on wrong, it was blowing the air from the case over the radiator to the outside. Of course for best performance you want to suck in air over the radiator into the case. So yesterday I flipped the fan on the radiator, so that it is now sucking in air. Immediately the idle temp on the CPU went from the 27C when blowing out, to 34C sucking in. Apparently it's cooler inside the PC case than the outside air is. ;-)

I'll tinker with that one for the next few days.
Thanks for the proof reading, Chris

Oh typical! Oh well done anniet! You finally swing an hour of seti time on a borrowed laptop (YAY! borrowed laptop!) and the project turns itself off specially. *pause for sudden dark thought* It's as if they knew...

... *pause for reality intervention* or there's omething seriously amiss with my timing :)

Okay, found my case: Aerocool Aero-1000. Comes with three 120mm case fans, and multiple places where I can easily add the radiator for the water cooling.

Morning anniet...

I'm actively switching use between SETI, and Folding@Home. This week was F@H time; I was switching back to SETI today; but, now with the unscheduled Outrage... I've switched back to F@H until SETI comes back up; maybe in time for Tuesday's Outrage???? ;-)

Well you may be privy to info that I am not, but I would have thought it unlikely that the lads in the lab would get it wrong? Especially after having made an official announcement on the home page. We live and learn as they say.

They didn't get anything wrong.
The power work is not 'supposed' to interrupt anything. That's why no official announcement of the work on the Berk IST page.
However, on the chance that something would go awry, Matt said they decided to take their kit offline during the work.
It's not like Seti has a lot of spare kit to fall back on, so I agree with their erring on the side of caution.

Meow!

Thanks for the update Mark. As I said some people are privy to info that I am not.

It was discussed at one point in the Panic Mode thread. A couple others wised me up as to why I was not finding an announcement by the IST group on their page.
And I had read Matt's blurb on the servers being taken offline as a precaution anyway.

These things are supposed to go smoothly and as planned when done by professionals...but being an electrician, I have also heard of some major cat-atrophies caused by a very simple blunder that wreaked havoc when the switches were turned back on. A lifted neutral, a misplaced ground cable....etc.

So, again, I'd rather have the kit down for a day and come back up than have it's magic smoke splattered all over the inside of the server rack....LOL.

They do still have some basic things up and running. Just not anything that needs to hit on the DB. That is what they are mostly protecting.

The home page is up, the SSP is up and updating, and the forum pages return the 'project is down for maintenance' message.
So, you can monitor the SSP during the day to see when they come back around.
