Hi, on some projects I have duplicate hosts for some reason and it's impossible to merge them. If I try "Merge computers by name", I receive the following error message: "Can't merge host xxxx into xxxx - they're incompatible". If I go to one of those hosts and click "Merge this computer", the message is "No hosts are eligible for merging with this one". If I click details, it tells me "Host xxxx has overlapping lifetime (16 Feb 2009 - 24 Mar 2009), (2 Mar 2009 - 23 Mar 2009)". Of course, they have overlapping lifetime. They have been created about the same time! I think this message is a little bit stupid, isn't it? So, what is this silly merge thing good for, if I can't merge any kind of duplicate hosts? Any ideas about that? OK, if there is no way to merge this hosts, what if I delete the duplicates and leave only the presently active one? Will the credits of the deleted duplicates be added to the remaining one after some days or are they lost? I know that they aren't lost for the project, but if they are lost for the host, the sum of all hosts will differ from the project totals and I don't like that. Any suggestion would be appreciated. |

...If I click details, it tells me "Host xxxx has overlapping lifetime (16 Feb 2009 - 24 Mar 2009), (2 Mar 2009 - 23 Mar 2009)". Wie haste dat denn hingekriegt? :-) Of course, they have overlapping lifetime. They have been created about the same time! I think this message is a little bit stupid, isn't it? I don't think so. Normally, duplicate host entries are generated when you install a new version of BOINC, so the first one's lifetime should end exactly where the other's begins. So, what is this silly merge thing good for, if I can't merge any kind of duplicate hosts? Any ideas about that? Sorry, not for your case, but it works for others. OK, if there is no way to merge this hosts, what if I delete the duplicates and leave only the presently active one? Will the credits of the deleted duplicates be added to the remaining one after some days or are they lost? I know that they aren't lost for the project, but if they are lost for the host, the sum of all hosts will differ from the project totals and I don't like that... No, the credits will not be added to other hosts, but they will remain with your account (XJR-Maniac) on each project. Gruß, Gundolf Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. (Kleiner Scherz) |

...If I click details, it tells me "Host xxxx has overlapping lifetime (16 Feb 2009 - 24 Mar 2009), (2 Mar 2009 - 23 Mar 2009)". 1. dual-boot systems e.g. Linux and Windows 2. two instances of BOINC are running, necessary if the BOINC-scheduler isn't running correct, or the "work fetcher" does crazy things. Of course, they have overlapping lifetime. They have been created about the same time! I think this message is a little bit stupid, isn't it? Normally? O.k. then there are many abnormal modes of using BOINC possible (see 1. and 2.) So, what is this silly merge thing good for, if I can't merge any kind of duplicate hosts? Any ideas about that? Hmm, it works only for a few (mergeable) computers, and it doen't work for me too. |

If the OS is different, then BOINC sees them as completely different computers. You won't be able to merge them. Kathryn :o) |

...If I click details, it tells me "Host xxxx has overlapping lifetime (16 Feb 2009 - 24 Mar 2009), (2 Mar 2009 - 23 Mar 2009)". Just to throw some light on this miracle I'm gonna explain but it's a little bit complicated. I run BOINC on my test PCs at my office, too. But our company has a firewall, so BOINC projects cannot connect their servers for down- and uploads. For this reason I have to "preload" some clients, set them to NNW and NN and carry them to my office to run them on my test PCs. If the WU is finished, or for CPDN to send trickles and finished decades, I take them back home and let them report. That is the reason for my multiple duplicate hosts. It's not such a big problem. This way it nearly reflects the real number of hosts I use at home and at my office, e.g. at BOINCSTATS or similar stats sites. Of course, they have overlapping lifetime. They have been created about the same time! I think this message is a little bit stupid, isn't it? |
