I have a couple of old PCs that I want to use exclusively for BOINC. Previously I was running BOINC under Ubuntu, but since I don't use those PCs anymore, I see no need to have a GUI and other services using up RAM and CPU power that could otherwise be dedicated to crunching. However, I am not too skilled at command-line linux.

Does anyone have a custom linux distro optimized solely for running BOINC that I could install with minimal hassle?

I have several 32-bit x86 machines and a couple of G4 Power Macs (I realize the power macs have fewer projects available and may be harder to set up).

There's Dotsch_UX although I don't know if it can be installed because I haven't explored it. Won't work on your PPC Macs tho.

What about something like DSL? Or Puppy Linux. I believe those both come with a desktop environment, but are lighter than other distros.

In the moment, there are three projects (SETI, SIMAP and Superlink) which supports Linux on PPC. MacOS PPC would be supported by a lot of more projects (about 15 to 20 projects). So MacOS could be eventualy a alternative to Linux on PPC. The most projects support MacOS 10.3.9 or 10.4.x.

Yes, but I would have to pay for Mac OS. I said I had the machines, not the OS. That's why I'm only concerned with Linux. ;)
