My BOINC Manager is unable to connect to a BOINC client (Windows XP computer). I has worked for weeks without problems. I have tried rebooting, turning of the computer overnight, all does not work. I have it running as a single user, and I have had this happen before where I had to uninstall and completely delete the install directory.

I have it running as a single user installation. I do not exit BOINC before shutting down. Could that cause this problem?

It has happened again, and I don't want to have to reinstall every few weeks. Anyone have a solution to my problem? Why would it not recogize my clients (SETI and Rosetta) all of a sudden?

Here is the contents of stderrdae.txt:

I have it running as a single user installation. I do not exit BOINC before shutting down. Could that cause this problem?

Not if you have another OS than Vista or Windows 2008 Server.
What usually sits behind the error is that your firewall either has forgotten or has no entry for BOINC.exe, BOINCMgr.exe (and if you use them BOINCCMD.exe and BOINC.scr). All these parts of BOINC talk to each other on TCP port 31416 and therefore need to be enabled to get through the firewall on your computer only.

Why would it not recogize my clients (SETI and Rosetta) all of a sudden?

When BOINC Manager cannot reach the client (BOINC.exe), it shows all tabs as empty. The applications and work should still be fine.

Now as a work around, why don't you reinstall BOINC as a service? The next version of BOINC will install as a service by default. To install BOINC 5.10.45 as a service will still need a Windows administrator account with a password though.

The more interesting question, I think, is what is causing BOINC to crash?

I can't see any indication which of the 4 threads crashed, but 2 of them are in the benchmark code (whetstone.C lines 58 and 204) and the diagnostics code was engaged when the main thread was in ssleay32.dll.
