Profile: CAWimer

Your personal background.
I became a state licensed and nationally registered medic in 1984, and served with Chardon-Hambden (OH) Fire Rescue, Painesville (OH) Ambulance Company and MedSpec, Inc. I served as Manager for Painesville Ambulance and served as C.E.O., President and Chief Medic for MedSpec, Inc. I gave up my licensing due to pressures of the job.

I was also Regional and State Coordinator for 11 different computer networks while operating a BBS (Bulletin Board System) for 12 years. (This was before the creation of the World Wide Web.) In fact, I designed, programmed and operated the 3rd BBS ever in operation in the state of Ohio.

I presently am an O.E.S. (Official Emergency Station) for the A.R.R.L. (American Radio Relay League) in the State of Ohio. I also hold the positions of Assistant Emergency Coordinator for Trumbull County (Ohio), Assistant R.A.C.E.S. (Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service) Radio Officer (also known as Assistant Communications Officer) in Trumbull County (Ohio) for the Trumbull County Emergency Management Agency, Assistant Operation SKYWARN Coordinator in Trumbull County (Ohio) for the National Weather Service, National Weather Service Liaison for Trumbull County (Ohio), and National Weather Service Operation SKYWARN Radio Operator for the Cleveland, Ohio, Regional Office. I hold the Amateur Radio license KC8EHA and the M.A.R.S. (Military Affiliate Radio Service) license NNN0EAK. In 1996, I wrote and published the Emergency Communications Operations Manual for Trumbull County, Ohio.

I served in the U.S. Navy. I was honorably discharged after retiring from military service. I was what is commonly called a "mustang" - that is, I went from enlisted ranks, through O.C.S. (Officers Candidate School), to the officer ranks. I retired from the United States Navy holding the rank of Lieutenant.

My interests include amateur radio, guitar, computer programming, history, books (reading), electronics and classical music.

I became interested in SETI@home through friends in 1999. Because of this interest, I joined SETI@home. My interest in SETI is simple: I believe that there MUST be extraterrestrial intelligent lifeforms. To believe that we are the only intelligent lifeforms in the universe is extremely arrogant. We should attempt to contact other lifeforms, yet there is a fearful aspect to this proposition - extraterrestrial life might discover that we are really not that intelligent! :)
