1) Message boards : Questions and problems : Boinc constantly "suspended - user active" (Message 26460)

Thank you Jord/Ageless. I did not have "Suspend work if no mouse/keyboard activity in last set to ---". That was the answer. I had this value as 5 and suspend after 7 minutes. I set Suspend if no, to 0 (it then shows as ---) and all is ok. Perhaps Boinc settings should reject an "if no" value less than the suspend time, unless it is 0.

Anyway, thank you for sorting this out for me.

Ageless / Jord

I'm not sure that you understood my question, or if you did, that I understood your reply. My problem is that I would like BOINC to run only when my computer is idle. However, if I set my preferences to this (Idle after 7 minutes) then BOINC thinks the computer is constantly in use. I can leave the computer alone for a number of days with no application running, and BOINC thinks it is in use and performs no work. The only way I can get BOINC to process is to override the settings and use Activity / Run Always. I tried setting "run whilst on batteries" just in case this was causing the problem, it makes no difference.

It looks like elkomog, the user who posted after your reply, has exactly the same problem.

I've only have this problem since I had my Sony Vaio Laptop, on other computers before then I had no problem.

On my Sony Vaio laptop, if I run in Based On Preferences mode, Boinc never runs as it says "User active." The only way I can run Boinc on this laptop is to have Boinc in run in Run Always mode.

I did not have this problem on other PCs. I've upgraded to the latest client, it makes no difference.

What is going on?
4) Message boards : Web interfaces : WEB RPC for Team Stats (Message 12496)

Post:
Currently there is a WEB RPC to retrive XML giving data on an individual user's statistics. My Boinc Stats Vista Sidebar Gadget uses this. There is also a WEB RPC for host stats.

Will there eventually be a WEB RPC for an individual team stats? This would enable me to extend my gadget to show just a user's team(s) stats - or both their user and team(s) stats.

This would be a great addition to my gadget.

I know there is the every team xml, that is not what I am after.
5) Message boards : BOINC client : Vista Client running Boinc projects all the time. (Message 12348)

My preferences say only run projects when PC is inactive (I often use the client settings to say run all the time).

The Boinc Client on my XP PC (not the latest client) does not run projects when the PC is active. The Boinc Client (v5.10.13) on my Vista Home Premium Laptop runs projects all the time, even when the PC is active.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Also, it would be really useful if the settings (such as the number of CPUs and %age CPU to use) had a second setting, for when PC is in use. Thus I could set BOINC to use 60% of 2 CPUs when no mouse or kb activity, but only 30% of 1 CPU when the PC is in use.

I should have said, the gadget cycles through your stats. Cool transitions too.

I checked with David Anderson. He says CPIDs have no checksums.

Many thanks.

Do CPIDs contain a checksum? If so, what is the algorithm for validating them?

I would like to be able to validate a CPID before using the interface to retrieve the XML data. Of course, just because the CPID is valid does not mean it exists.
10) Message boards : BOINC client : Loging off Vista or shutting down causes computation error in work units. (Message 11899)

I have this as a consistant error. I've just upgraded to 5.10 in the hope that it would fix the problem, it has not.

I'm running BOINC on a Duo Core 2 Vista Home Premium.

My only work round is to always hibernate, and only run from projects with short work units, as there are times when I must reboot.

Has anyone else hit this? Is there an increase in the number of failed work units?

I have a brand new duel core laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium and Boinc 5.8.16.

When I log off, or shut down my laptop, my work units fail with Computational Error.

My only option seems to be to always hibernate my laptop.

Is this a know bug? Is there an increase in the number of failed work units?

I have just installed Version 5.2.13 on a second PC and would like to upgrade from version 4.25 on my original PC. Can I just install the new version? Is there anything I need to do first, such as using "file-suspend" to force a stop of current work -- or at least "file-run based on preferences" to stop current work? I have an 18% complete climateprediction work unit that I don't want to lose.
