On this wiki page:
https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Installing_BOINC_on_Ubuntu

There is this line of instructions on how to download boinc from the command line:
sudo aptitude install boinc-client boinc-manager

It doesn't work. Substitute apt-get for aptitude and it will work fine.

I'm a compete newby, trying to install Bonic for the first time. I'm running on a older but good (I-7, 16 GB) computer that I reformated, then installed Ubantu Linux 16.04.3 in 64 bit mode. I really set this up to just run SETI, since I have no special need for it otherwise. I went to the download page, and clicked on the download button. Then ran the download file. Got an error message from gedit saying that there were unreadable characters in the file. Tried it three times, with a clean download file each time. Same error.

Then I tried the command line install as given on the bonic linux page for ubantu:
sudo aptitude install bonic-client bonic-manager

got an error message: aptitude unknown command. Checked the man page, no aptitude.

Any ideas?

Pete
