exclusive app for gpu use
(Message 28340)
Posted 27 Oct 2009 by mahdia Post: Yes, I know the exclusive application option in cc_config.xml. But it would be very nice if it would be possible to configure this separatly for GPU and CPU tasks resp. applications. Perhaps an anhenacemnt request^^. Thanx atm for the answers. Greetings from Potsdam, Frank |

exclusive app for gpu use

Posted 25 Oct 2009 by mahdia Post: Hello to all BOINC-folks, I want to set the computing prefs as follows: compute always, but if one special application is running, don't use gpu-computing (cpu computing should be allowed). Is there any way to achieve this ? Regards, Frank |

BOINC service doesn't start after suspend-to-ram
(Message 5089)
Posted 22 Jul 2006 by mahdia Post: Hello from Potsdam ! I don't know, how related to BOINC this is, but BOINC is the only service, who doesn't start when waking up windows from suspend-to-ram-state. No related messages are in the windows event log. Perhaps I have to configure something, but what ? Regards, Frank |

change the used cpus without restarting the client
(Message 4983)
Posted 12 Jul 2006 by mahdia Post: That's the normal way, but this doesn't fulfill my needs. I want to change the used cpus immediately by running a shell script. The original reason to do this was noise reduction, because my dual core box makes much noise while using 2 cpus for boinc, so i decrease it at morning to one cpu, and when i leave the office i increase it to 2 cpus, because no one is at the office any more and would be irritated by the noise. Regards, Frank |

change the used cpus without restarting the client
(Message 4981)
Posted 12 Jul 2006 by mahdia Post: Hello from Berlin ! I wonder if there is a possibility to change the number of used cpus at any time without restarting the boinc client and so force the applications to restart at last checkpoint. Currently I use a little script, that modifies global_prefs_override.xml and stops and restarts the client. Perhaps there is some boinc api method to call to do this ? Regards, Frank |

setting cpu usage per project
(Message 3677)
Posted 28 Mar 2006 by mahdia Post: Hello ! It would be nice if it would possible to limit the usage of the available cpus per project. For example I have a host with 2 cpus (only virtual, but never mind), and per default BOIC runs two workunits at once. That's not a problem with most projects, but f.e. the new seasonal climate models need a lot of memory and I want to prevent BOINC to run 2 of such WUs at the same time, because this is stressing my virtual memory and the other applications slows down. Ok, I could use the preferences to limit the general cpu usage to one, but that wastes cpu cycles if other projects (like predicotr@home) with little memory requirements are running. I hope, I explaned all well. Regards, Frank |

request for windows installer enhancement
(Message 3590)
Posted 22 Mar 2006 by mahdia Post: Hello from Potsdam in Germany ! I want to ask if it is possible to modify the installer for windows, that one can give additional command line parameters for the core client during the installation process. I have the clients installed as a service and I would add (for example) the -return_results_immediately param to the service start command. At the moment I have to hack the registry to add this param and that's not very comfortabel. Next point: Why isn't it possible to select the LocalSystem-User-Account during service installation ? Regards, Frank |

Strange networking behavior
(Message 3367)
Posted 6 Mar 2006 by mahdia Post: Hello, Tigher ! Thanx for your help. I used the automated test batch file and (after some modifications for german version of ms windows)it worked. Almost all tests are fine, only the following failed: ping setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu -l 2048 -n 4 > g.btf ping setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu -l 2048 -n 4 > i.btf It seems, that 2048 bytes are too much. In fact, any value greater than 1472 did not work. So, there is a problem with packet fragmentation, I beliefe. I can send you the complete logfile per email, if this helps. Regards, Frank |

Strange networking behavior
(Message 3229)
Posted 24 Feb 2006 by mahdia Post: Hello, BOINC-community ! I updated my BOINC client from 4.45 to 5.2.13 yesterday and now connecting to any project scheduler doesn't work anymore. I tried the new client on another machine in the same network (with no boinc formerly installed), same result: not able to connect to scheduler, BUT: Attaching to a project is possible, master file was downloaded, the host was registered on the project. Somtimes I've got an HTTP 500 - Error, sometimes only a simple HTTP-Error, both in BOINCManager Messages-Tab. What to check next ? Regards, Frank |
