1) Message boards : Questions and problems : Screen "blanker" is being deactivated by BOINC activity (Message 93227)

Post:
I recently implemented a "screen blanker" utility to turn off my LCD on my desktop.
I need this because I have BOINC Manager running 24x7 and all night long there is a screen shining out into the darkness,
both wasting power and making me appear I am up all night (nosy neighbors).

The problem is that after about 10 minutes the screen reactivates into life due, I feel, to BOINC Manager activity.

To avoid that, I changed the "Power On" button on my screen to perform a "Turn off display" functionality,
rather than the normal "Shutdown". I then removed the "blanker" utility.

Unfortunately the same thing happens, with the screen reactivating after some time
(the Lock screen comes up).

I have determined it is BOINC Manager (and its activities) causing the problem, because when BOINC Manager is closed down,
(only when I am testing for this problem), the screen stays dark until a mouse movement is detected or a keyboard key is pressed.
It stayed blank all night last night when BOINC was not running.

As soon as BOINC Manager is restarted and the screen is powered off, after 10 minutes or so the screen comes back on.

Is there a setting in BOINC which will bypass screen reactivation? If not, is there a workaround, or perhaps some planning
in the pipelines to address this problem?

Even when BOINC Manager is minimized, it still reactivates the screen after some time.

Does anyone have an answer to this, or is there a wish-list where I can add this request for further attention?

Well, I eventually worked out that copying BOINC.scr file (which Windows inconveniently deleted during the last update) into C:\Windows manually now at least allows me to set the screensaver to BOINC, via the Settings/Personalization/Lock Screen/Screen Saver Settings(link at bottom middle) route. It remains to be seen if this works II'll get back to you).

Another (more perplexing) problem is that the setting in BOINC Manager's "Computing Preferences" called "Suspend when computer is in use" does not now seem to work! I have it checked, and while I am merrily
typing this message (or doing anything else on the computer) BIONC activities are all churning away slowing my computer down (all the activities are running full pelt, when in the previous version they used to report "suspended due to use activity" (or words to that effect). They would only re-start running when I stopped typing for about 5 seconds.

Should I revert to the previous version (I am starting to think).....
3) Message boards : Questions and problems : Screensaver (Message 86476)

The screensaver no longer starts up automatically (and I cannot see how I get it to start!). (Postscript: I actually noticed I did not "Check" the box when I installed, so I will install again (sorry about that).

Another problem is that when I click on "Options/Read Config File" there is no indication that anything is happening or has happened. (The same with "Save" Config")

Also, when I click on "Options/Read Config File" there is no indication that anything is happening or has happened.
If I DO start the screensaver externally, it shows as a "solid" application window running in the foreground, not as a screen saver as such, and it also states that applications are running (when they are actually suspended due to user activity).
Very annoying not having the screen saver working.
