1) Message boards : BOINC Manager : Properly Shutting Down BOINC? (Message 2771)

Post:
I have a question regarding the proper shutdown of BOINC. From what I can tell, there are two methods.

One: right-click on the BOINC icon in the system tray, select "suspend", then select "exit".

Two: Individually suspending each project under the projects tab, then selecting "exit".

It seems that method one would be the most user-friendly, but I don't want to risk losing any work. In a nutshell, what is the proper way to shut down BOINC without losing work/data? Do I need to "suspend" at all before exiting BOINC?

Thanks so much... Be kind, I'm a newbie.

BOINC runs the processor at 100% all the time. It is normal for the fan to speed up in this case. As long as you are still within tolorences you should be ok.

Thanks for the info. Any suggestions for an app that can monitor CPU temp and/or any other pertinent info to keep an eye on my processor?

After running a project on BOINC, approximately 30 minutes, my CPU fan goes into high gear, and I'm wondering if this is a bad thing, that it might hurt my PC.

FYI: My PC is HP M490N, 3.4GHz, 1G RAM, 250GB Hard Drive, Pentium 4 HT.

My BOINC Disk Usage Settings:
Use no more than 150GB disk space
Leave at least 50GB disk space free
Use no more than 25% of total disk space
Write to disk at most every 60 seconds
Use no more than 50% of total virtual memory.

I'm unsure about my BOINC Disk Usage Settings, so any suggestions, especially ones that result in my CPU fan staying in low gear, would be much appreciated.

Kind Regards,
