I had figured out that much, but that only send the manager to tray, not the client. I expect others are managing to run the client invisibly somehow, I would like to know how.

When I first got the BOINC manager, I got the cannot connect to localhost error. I eventually figured out that it needs the client running. The only way I found to run it is to manually run the boinc.exe I found in program files. This results in a window always visible on the screen or minimised in the taskbar. Surely there is a way to run it either invisibly or as (another) icon in the notification area. Cheers.
