What you say is exact: simply editing gui_rpc_auth.cfg to specify a meaningful password will do.
Blank passwords are sometimes tricky: some apps will not handle this correctly (is it a blank password, or is there no password ....), so I wouldnt do that

Hi all,
I have just upgraded the Mgr from 4.5 to 5.2.2, and - surprise, surprise - the HIDE command in the FILE menu is no longer available.
Only FILE-EXIT and FILE-SELECT COMPUTER remains

Am I the only one who lost this feature or is there anyone else having the problem?
4) Message boards : BOINC Manager : Multiple WUs (Message 394)

I'm running on a very classical single processor laptop.

There is only one WU running at a time, the others are "preempted" or "ready to run"

In my general options, I have set "Leave applications in memory while preempted?" to No.
Restarting Boinc and/or rebooting does not makes any difference.

Note that I do not consider this as a problem, it is just a matter of curiosity, because I cannot find one single reason for Boinc to behave so !

Hi people,
Just a quickie: I noticed Boinc runs 2 WU on Seti and 4 on ProteinPredictor.
This is no problem as such, I just wonder why...

Any idea ?

Hello Germany !!

You're spot on target :-))

Now I see an important info I should have mentioned before : I'm running on a HP/Compaq laptop, and as I should have remembered, Compaq launches plenty of background processes (Insight Mgmt, they call them...)

One of those processes (webem32sl.exe or something like that) grabs the port 1043 at startup.

I just got rid of that bit of funtionality, and everything is fine now.

Still, there is one more mistery : how did I manage to run BOINC the very first time...

Anyhow, thanks !!

Here is some more information : when starting, the manager is not starting the core client as background process

If I start the client in a shell box (say DOS box), the manager is running ok.

Does this rings any bell, people ?

Thanks !

I've just switched over from the "good old" Seti@Home, and installed BOINC 4.45 on Win XP
Installation went OK, I managed to join and run some projects, so far so good: communications, computation, screen saver.

After a reboot, I restarted the BOINC Mgr, and it 'sort of hangs' with the message "connexion à localhost en cours" (connecting to localhost)

I then properly deinstalled/reinstalled BOINC, removing all the project related subdirs, but even then, it does no go any further than "connexion à localhost en cours"

Any clue people ?

Thanks !!
