Status suspended, benchmarks
(Message 12264)
Posted 31 Aug 2007 by Ford Prefect Post: I've been running Bionic,(primarily Rosseta) for over 2 years and have never seen this message before. The job stopped runninng and under statues is shown suspended - benchmarks. I really don't care if runs benchmarks, but it's using 100% of my CPU's capacity and everything has slowed markedly. How long do I have to put up with this? Would it be best to just close the program and start it back up at night when I'm not needing to use the computer? thanks, F. Prefect |

One more minor problem
(Message 7335)
Posted 8 Jan 2007 by Ford Prefect Post: At first the WU must have a 100,000% progress status, then you can report back to the project server, you can click the reset project button too. What I'm needing to delete are several jobs that have not even been started. I know I could detach from the project but at some time in the future I may very well use it again. I other words, I have 15 or 20 jobs for a project that I don't entend to use over the next several weeks and would just like to have them "out of the way" so to speak. Right now they are just listed as aborted my user, and if I wait until they eventually reach the "top of the list" so to speak, they will be removed by simply connecting to the project. I suppose I need a way to move them to the top of the list at which time they can be deleted. F. Prefect |

One more minor problem
(Message 7328)
Posted 8 Jan 2007 by Ford Prefect Post: For reasons I won't bore you with, I need to delete and or remove several jobs that I will not be able to complete. I tried the abort button but the jobs remained stedfastely in place now showing aborted by user. I need to completely remove these jobs and get them out of the way permanently. I tried connecting to the project after aborting the jobs but they just won't seem to budge. Where in the heck is the delete button? Thanks, F. Prefect |

Re-attaching projects
(Message 7280)
Posted 6 Jan 2007 by Ford Prefect Post: When BOINC came into existance, I began by running 2 projects, Rosetta and Einstein. About 2 years ago I decided just to run Einstein@home and detached Rosetta. When Einstein began having rather lengthy downtimes recently, I decided to put Rosetta back on 3 or 4 machines in case I ran out of work from Einstein. I was able to re-attach to Rosetta on machines running XP with no problem and D/L the necessary files, but on 2 win98 machines I received the message that I had attached to Rosetta and showed 1 file as being downloaded although no data was moving. I seem to recall that there were a couple of files that needed to be removed before Rosetta would actually begin to install. I did a search for the word rosetta on drive C and discovered there were 25-30 files in other than the BOINC folder that contain "rosetta". I started just to delete all of them but thought there might be some file sharing and thought better of it. Does anyone have any idea how I can get the files needed to run rosetta downloaded? It says I'm attached and even shows 1 file being downloaded, but as a said above, no data is moving. Thanks in advance. F. Prefect ford42@inter-linc.net |

Posted 24 Nov 2006 by Ford Prefect Post: The problem is with the file system, not hardware, as David Hammer tried mounting the disks in the backup server. That didn't work. So he's trying to figure out what to do next. I hope he gets paid triple for it. :-) Thanks Jord, I was certain the problem was with their server when none of the six machines I have running Einstein@home would connect to any of their URLs. I was trying in a round about way to get some information on how long it might be down. I still have 4 machines with work and have set my network availability to suspended. Guess all those turkeys are extracting a bit of revenge. Thanks for the update. F. Prefect |

Posted 31 May 2006 by Ford Prefect Post: Just curious, but has the Einstein@Home project been completed? I haven't been able to send or receive anything or communicate with them via their message board for several days. I did heard some rumor about an air conditioner failure but have no idea as to the voracity of said rumor. If they do plan to continue, has anyone heard anything definitive as to when it will be running again? Ford |

Posted 30 May 2006 by Ford Prefect Post: Always keep 4-7 days of worth of work downloaded, for just such an event. Before I'm going to accumulate large numbers of completed jobs that I will have to upload , as well as possible download new data, when the server is back up and running, I'm going to first get a look at what kind of a log jam there is going be. It it's anything like SETI used to be several years ago, I could have a line tied up for several hours attempting to upload my finished work. I hope I'm going to be wrong, but I would rather wait and be certain I can send my completed work within a reasonable time period, rather than end up having to delete some work in order to free up my one land line. Yes, there are some of us who still use 56K dialup connections. F. Prefect |

Posted 29 May 2006 by Ford Prefect Post: Does anyone know if there is a problem with the Einstein@Home project, and if so when it might be back online. For some reason I am not only unable to upload data, but it appears all URLs connected with the project are also down. Thanks for the help. Since it appeared everything was down, I assumed their forum would be as well. If it's only going to be 2 or 3 days, I should have plenty of worked on all 5 of my machines. F. Prefect |

Average Credit??
(Message 3204)
Posted 22 Feb 2006 by Ford Prefect Post: This is not of any Earthshaking importance, but for the past couple of months I've been watching my Ave. credit number and as of yet have not been able to figure out exactly what it is. I can find no reference to it in help. I first began watching it when it was approx. 550 and for the past several weeks has been fluctuating between 750 and 800. Now my question. At times when I report results, particularly in the morning, it can take a substantial drop. At other times I can send in 1 very short job and it will move up 15 points. What the heck is it and why would it fall when I upload 5 or 6 results? F. Prefect |
