OK, the obvious, "just a password" worked. Thanks! I was over thinking this a bit. It also helps if you create a firewall policy to add your server to it. Duh ....

Thanks all for your patience.

I have four servers running boinc now, how can I best volunteer my time? I would like to add what ever resources I can to the project.

This page does not make clear the format that the password file needs to be. On my systems this file was created empty. Because of this I can not connect. Does anyone know the format of this file so I may supply a password?

Hello,

I have been all over google on this and still have many questions. I am attempting to connect from my ubuntu 16.10 desktop running Boinc 7.6.33 x86_64 to a remote server running ubuntu server 14.04 and Boinc 7.6.31 x86_64. Boinc is running fine on both machines, but I am unable to connect. I have several questions.

1) What is the correct format of /etc/boinc-client/gui_rpc_auth.cfg ? I would like to supply a password for connect and the file is empty.

2) Do I need anything else other than "allow_remote_gui_rpc" set in /etc/boinc-client/cc_config.xml to allow connection?

3) Did I read somewhere that setting #2 overides password/other settings ??

4) is 1043 the correct port for connect?

5) I don't see anything in /var/log/boinc.log on my desktop machine to indicate any problems when I try and connect to the remote machine. Should I be looking elsewhere?

Sorry for all the questions but it seems that every page has a small piece of the puzzle, but I am still missing something I guess. I am planning on documenting the entire process of getting this running on my blog once I get it all working.
