I was responding to the request to post result asked by Cthulhu

I have a lot of old Mac doing Boinc,
iMac 2008, Mac Pro 2008, Mac mini 2011, Mac mini 2014, and I bought a MacPro 2010 last may (and my father has a 2019 iMac)

and I hope to switch to Apple silicon and give a well deserved retirement to some of those machine,
(and have more room in my appartement). I would like the next Mac mini or a Mac mini semi pro if such machine ever exist

I guess that we need to wait for project to be converted to apple silicon before being able to get some work from boinc
it would be nice if metal was supported because my guess is that apple with have more gpu unit in next year model.

Bad News

is seems that currently, An app must be program to use both card...

I would need to check if GCD support dual card configuration.
Maybe OpenCL use GCD.

New Mac Pros support AMD's CrossFire GPU teaming, but currently only within Windows

If you wanted to buy another one of those and send them to me, I wouldn't object :P

:-)
I will put you in the list in case I win the lottery :-)

I know I could built a PC for a lot cheaper and more powerful.
I just want a Mac, and also I like the fact that it can do this with minimum noise.

A few years ago, I bought my nephew a PC dual core2duo with a nice GPU card doing about 50000 points a day on Boinc, my old octo-core core2duo Mac Pro was doing about 5000. I did not really had a good graphic card.

The only problem with the PC was the fan going crazy. So after a few months, my nephew would shut it down at night.

I feel like the new Mac Pro has a very efficient Fan.

Thank you both for answering,

Now I am writing in VMWare fusion's forum to see if their product can access openCL directly.
Could be a solution to get more Boinc projet using the GPU on Mac

I will tell you if I get answer.

As far as Parallel is concerned, it does not seem to work.

Would be nice to have a wait to run both OS at the same level. I think i can be done on some PC with a special kernel... Maybe i just dreamt it :-)

I do find strange that they put two of those card and that I am still trying to find a power supply somewhere in there. :-)

but I guess they both should be able to work at the same time.

from this page http://www.primegrid.com/gpu_list.php
I found this:

MAC
(1.000) AMD Radeon HD - FirePro D700 Compute Engine
(0.836) ATI Radeon HD 7950 Compute Engine
(0.392) ATI Radeon HD 5770

Which is kind of disappointing

from what I understand
AMD FirePro W7000 is the D300 on Mac
AMD FirePro W8000 is the D500 on Mac
AMD FirePro W9000 is the D700 on Mac

P.S. I did not get an alert about the 2 new posts
I trying to find where i can change that in pref :-)

(unnecessary into :-)
I have let all my computer do all sort of distributed calculation all the way back when I use to login by modem :-)

I am planning to buy a new MacPro Just to do it a little bit faster
I know, I am a bit crazy, but not 100% because before I buy, I would like some information

Could anybody please direct me to where I could find info on things like

1- Will both card will be recognize,
2- Are OpenCL driver already exist for those card on Mac

As far as project name thatSupport GPU (openCL 1.2) can be use on Mac.
From this page
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/GPU_computing

it would seem only two projects support GPU on Mac with AMD card

Projects with ATI/AMD applications:
Collatz Conjecture (Windows, Windows 64bit, Linux 64bit)
Einstein (Linux, Windows on Intel; Mac OS X under active development)

Any help would be very much appreciated

Thank you

Franco

I did everything once again but this time, after restart and install, I choose Add project instead of Account manager. I add a project with my nephew account, and it work,

Then, as soon as I add his account manager, the other project came back with my account
so I removed them, remove the account manager and add all the projects manually with his account,

I will wait a few day then I will add again the account manager.

Thank you

info:
It is windows 7 - 64 bits
I have the option set to see hidden folder
After the Add/Remove program control panel job was done, I found files in 2 location
C:\PROGRAM FILES\BOINC\
C:\ProgramData\BOINC\

When I re-install the boinc 64 bit, it did say that executable will be put in
C:\PROGRAM FILES\BOINC\

by following the "procedure", I though I had remove all data directories, but it is obvious now that I did not :-)

I think i might have installed it as a service. Is there another place I should look for data directories.

Thank you

I use my account on a windows 7 / 64bits computer for a while. Now I want to transfer it to my nephew. Every times I start Boinc manager. My account show up. I un-installed Boinc by following this procedure.
http://boincfaq.mundayweb.com/index.php?language=1&view=490
(but At the end, running the scripts do not seem to help)

when I reinstall, I login with the BAM account of my nephew but my account is still there and new job are being downloaded.

How can I remove everything from that computer, before re-installing .

Thank you

I started with 32 bits kernel and now the GPU is "found",
right now I use CUDA 3.0 - should I go back to 2.3 ?

if I understand correctly, project that support GPU on Mac are,
GPUGrid
Einstein@Home
Milkyway@Home
Collatz Conjecture

I will attach to all of them and see.

My Mac Pro with 8800 installed boots up and auto launches BOINC. When I upgraded to .36 and finally got the CUDA working (ya!) I noticed that the first launch after a reboot it won't see the GPU, but if I just quit, wait a few seconds and relaunch it, then BOINC will see it.

10.6.2. My machine

I have a MacPro with a gtx 285 that I bought only for Boinc.

So far, I still get the No usable GPUs found message.

Update boinc to 6.10.43, no more luck.
I installed CUDA 3.0Beta, same result.
Create a cc_config.xml file with <use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus> option - no luck.

any help would be appreciated.
