windows client:

half the day, it just says "running tasks" followed by 2 static shots of packets (seti@home) apparently in progress and displaying their progress, etc.

but it's not actually doing anything.

so................ what gives?

Post:
ever since i downloaded 6.12.33, it won't run any projects.
just constantly says "CPU usage too high".
i have it set to 90% and it says that even if i'm running no other programs (and i have a monitor that says it's usually running 40% of the processors).

what gives?
13) Message boards : Questions and problems : no network connection??? (Message 39556)
Posted 10 Aug 2011 by james nigh
Post:
hmmmmmm... but why would you ask about (external) network connections when only your BOINC manager has trouble connecting to localhost? ;-)

What's your operating system?

How do you start up the BOINC client (automatically or by launching the manager)?

Gruß,
Gundolf

my concern is... if it's not even connected to localhost, it's not downloading work, right?

WIN7 (64 bit) and... i thought i had it as a startup program, but now that i look... apparently not.
i just have "run manager at login" ticked.

This is for dial-up and VPN connections only. They will then show in the list.
As long as the list is clear, your default connection will be used.

hmmmmmm... ok.

problem i'm having is....
when it starts up in the morning, boinc gives me a little balloon via the taskbar saying it couldn't connect and the manager icon has a red X over it.

if i just right-click -> open it, withing 5 seconds it connects to Localhost and all is well.
such a daunting routine though.
i was attempting to troubleshoot why it couldn't just connect upon startup.

any ideas?

that is, in advanced -> options -> connections, the list is blank.
yet clearly, i have a network connection.
i simply don't see a way of adding one to the list and setting it as the default.

thoughts?

upon running the manager, i get:
[error] GUI RPC bind to port 31416 failed: 98
gstate.init() failed
Error Code: -180

what gives?
it's not a problem with my network, is it?
17) Message boards : Questions and problems : what's the default (service or not)? (Message 35955)
Posted 3 Dec 2010 by james nigh
Post:
It's pretty much irrelevant if installed as service or not with 6.10 or 6.12. On both my W7 and Linux (daemon only), and having additionally selected "All users" on top of service (protected mode) during the install (only offered during a windows install) provides graphics on both platforms. Linux of course (still) has no BOINC screensaver.

For Windows, if you visit the services.msc admin panel and see BOINC as an entry, then you'll know it's a service loading before sign in.

thanks.

yeah, it's nowhere in services.msc...
so any idea what issue i'm having with the graphics not displaying?

i'm having trouble with the graphics displaying (just getting the logo + text).
doing a process of elimination, i don't remember SPECIFICALLY whether i installed it as a service or not. i just went with all the defaults. so.......
1) how does the default install run (service or not)?
2) how can i check for sure?
19) Message boards : Questions and problems : graphics won't display (Message 35685)

thanks for the response.

unfotunately, stupid device manager only tells me "intel(r) hd graphics" and that the driver VERSION is 8.15.10.2119. =/
20) Message boards : Questions and problems : graphics won't display (Message 35636)
Posted 6 Nov 2010 by james nigh
Post:
first off, "show graphics" is enabled for every task.
win7/64 bit.
intel video card.
cosmology, einstein, and seti @home + world community grid.

it simply REFUSES to display graphics, just text and there's nothing in the messages saying there's a problem.
it's a new install.... graphics were running fine on my laptop, but like i said... no errors in the messages about it.

any ideas?
