1) Message boards : Questions and problems : (reached daily quota of 1 results) (Message 36562)

Post:
I keep receiving the messages listed below. I have no work units for any of the different projects. I added 2 projects to see if I would get any work units and have received none. Two other projects (not listed) return that no work is available. I am running XP pro on a Dell latitude. I have 6 G available disk space. I have upgraded to the latest BOINC release. I have reset every project and have detached and reattached to the ones listed below. Lastly, this behavior does not occur on 2 other identical machines.

Explanation? Advice to correct?

thanks LouB

As long as you don't reset or detach, this should only happen once. However, a 10 to 1 ratio seems a bit extreme.

I think it's only (almost) 2 to 1 :-)
[(55 + 60) to 60]

it looks like 22:1 is a better approximation.
the win2k Box downloaded 12 work units from Einstein. Each unit had an estimated completion time of 10:53:47. The first unit has been running for 37:36:17. The % completion is 17.759% and the current estimated to completion time is 38:17:49. at this rate the original 11 hours will take about 220 hours.

This box gets used a few times a week by a client. The use is only for 30 - 40 minutes each time. During this time period, the 38 hours, no one has logged into or used this machine. If this is that abnormal, perhaps I should kill the processes, reformat the hard disk and reinstall everything from scratch.

boinc manager 6.2.19 - win 2k and win xp operating systems.

for five projects, einstien@home, seti@home, Milkyway@home, malariacontrol.net and climateprediction.net, the completion time rises on average 55 minutes per hour of run time. Also when the the progress = 100%, it runs for another hour or so before reporting. I do not have this problem on 2 other win xp machines, nor on 1 additional win 2k machine.

I am picking on this mail list because the multiple apps suggest that the problem is with the boinc manager. Several virus checkers indicate that there is no problem.

any suggestions?

Is there a reasonble method of moving Boinc and its projects from C:\\Program Files\\BOINC to D:\\Program Files\\BOINC on a win2k box that does not involve Uninstalling and then reinstalling?

Same machine, different projects. Seti and Einstien work without a problem for 6 or 8 days. Then on the 7th or 9th day, hundreds of "Boinc failed to disconnected from the internet" message boxes will appear while I am at work. Fortunately or un, I have clients who are still running win98 so I need to keep a test bed for their changes. In any event, closing the message boxes or rebooting does nothing but clear the messages. Soon they will re-appear. After a couple of days, they will stay gone for a week or so.

I have not been able to tie the message appearances clearly to a logged message. I am hoping that someone else can and has a solution other than re-booting the
machine.

You posted in December with a similar problem. In that one, you mentioned Win98, and pasted messages from climateprediction.
I'm not sure if this is still the same machine, project, OS, BUT:
climateprediction doesn't work with Win98.

else

If it's a different machine, project

then

Please tell us these details.

Problem started -winxp pro- when I suspended a project. A second one immediately was downloaded and started and then another and another until I have 2 versions of each project time sharing. They seem to be chugging along, but finishing both client projects is problamatic.

Any suggestions - Thanks LouB

The same problem only occurs on my home network with my laptop; it does not happed on my work network with the same laptop. I am running Win 2K pro. My home desktop (win98), my print server (laptop with win98) and my spouses desktop (xp) do not exhibit this behavior. The error windows are created so quickly that it sounds like a single odd phone ring.

the problem may be associated with the following messages:
12/13/2005 8:57:00 PM|climateprediction.net|Result sulphur_fylk_000744680_0 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file
12/13/2005 8:57:00 PM|climateprediction.net|If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project.
12/13/2005 8:57:00 PM||request_reschedule_cpus: process exited
12/13/2005 8:57:00 PM|climateprediction.net|Restarting result sulphur_fylk_000744680_0 using sulphur_cycle version 422

Once the error windows are cleared, the project seems to function normally.
