1) Message boards : BOINC Manager : Connection Problems (Message 2156)

just wanted to report that my connection problems (primarily boincmgr.exe not communicating with boinc.exe) have cleared up completely ever since I removed the Google Web Accelerator that I had been running.

Once I discarded Google Web Accelerator, BOINC has run fine "out of the box," loads at start up and connects with no problems. So if anyone else is running Google Web Accelerator that is a possible conflict to keep in mind.

This morning BOINC loaded fine at startup; perhaps it just needed a cold start?

If I have further connection problems I will try removing it from the start menu, and will look forward to the next version of the BOINC Manager.

thanks for the help.

I am also looking for help on this and found that BOINC cannot connect since updating Windows today.

I had previously had problems with the BOINC Manager not being able to connect to boinc.exe. I solved this previously by going to gui_rpc_auth.cfg and changing the random letters there to a blank line with carriage return.

That worked until today, when I updated Windows; following the update and restart, I got the Connection Failed message again.

I removed my altered version of BOINC and downloaded again from the BOINC website, but this version already has a blank line for gui_rpc_auth.cfg.

Not sure what to try at this point; suggestions welcome.

I am running Windows XP, SP2.

I am having the same problem, after installing BOINC I get the following message:

"BOINC Manager is not able to connect to a BOINC client. Would you like to try again? y/n"

Looking in the Windows task manager I see that boincmgr.exe is running but boinc.exe is not.

I had this same problem previously and was able to solve it, as suggested in this thread, by going to gui_rpc_auth.cfg and changing the letter string there to a blank line. But when I looked at that file in this version of BOINC that I downloaded more recently, this line is already blank.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks AndyF1; you were right I needed to read that thread. The problem was that boincmgr.exe was running but boinc.exe was not. When I followed the suggestion in that thread, to replace the random string in gui_rpc_auth.cfg with a blank line and carriage return, and restarted the computer, boinc.exe ran and I am now connected to SETI.

thanks again.

I did refer to the Step by Step Guide as suggested by Jim K.

BOINC installs fine; when in launches, however, it does not run any benchmarks and there are no messages listed. The installation wizard does not request access to the internet for the BOINC programs. I still just get the message stating that the BOINC Manager is not able to connect to a BOINC client.

I believe I am doing everything as specified in the Step by Step Guide but must be missing something; any suggestions appreciated.

I am running Windows XP, SP2, and have been using SETI Classic for several years with no problem.

Last week I downloaded BOINC and connected to SETI without too much difficulty, and it worked for the most part, although there were some connection outages at SETI.

Recently (within the last few days) the connection to SETI was dropped, and all messages were erased. I have removed and reinstalled BOINC 5.2.13 several times, but all I get is the message:

"BOINC Manager is not able to connect to a BOINC client. Would you like to try to connect again? y/n"

So I cannot even get to the tab to try to select a project.

I have tried reinstalling BOINC with my firewall (Kerio) turned off, but that does not make a difference. I have tried reinstalling but deselecting the "Launch at startup box," but that does not make a difference either.

Any other suggestions appreciated.
