When "Allow all users to control BOINC" is not checked, BOINC will not run on their account, nor will they be able to use BOINC Manager.

Ok, thanks for your help. I want to make some people I know install BOINC so I wanted to be sure what to tell them if they have any questions about installation.

When you don't install as a service, BOINC will start after Windows log-on. When installed as a service, BOINC will always run, even when no-one is logged in.

Yeah but I wondered what the difference between choosing "Allow all users" and not was (when not doing service install), if it would prevent BOINC from starting at log in for some users or if it would just prevent them from controlling BOINC. But I guess that from your reply you mean the second of the alternatives.

Could someone please say which one of my guesses are correct? I mean you only have to point out which one, it's not like writing a howto or anything.

Hi I have some questions about the options you have when you install boinc on windows which I haven't been able to find the answers to.

I already know that when boinc is installed as a service it will always run, and that not choosing the "Allow all users"-option will prevent some users from controlling boinc but it will always run. (read it here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Release_Notes)

But what happens if I don't do a service install? Is the only difference that it will always start at log in? Or does not choosing the "Allow all users"-option change whether it will start at log in for other users? Or will it only prevent them from controlling boinc (as with the service install)?

Isn't it possible to run Folding@Home on PS3? I think it's called "Life on playstation" or something. I mean since there are only 2 BOINC project that can use PS3 you might want to look inte Folding, just to give you more choices and it might be easier to run it. I actually don't know since I haven't tried to use any PS3 for crunching.

The world would be a much better place if people at least tried a little themselves before asking questions, with a quick google search for: how to stop boinc running ubuntu. I found this:

first link:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=603873

second link:
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Stop_or_start_BOINC_daemon_after_boot

you should have your questions answered there.
