Well, just tried APP 2.5 together with Official Cats 11.7, and again both clocks stays at 2D mode...

With Catalysts 11.7 and 11.8 preview, it is even worst!
Both GPUs stay at 507MHz running SETI!!!
Back to 11.5rc5

I hope that AMD APP v2.5 will bring full support on the 4870x2 ...

I have updated:
a. Catalyst from 11.4 to 11.5a Hotfix
b. AP from r456 to r516
and also reinstalled AMD SDK 2.4 just to be sure I have the latest version.

The 2D clocks remain on the 2nd GPU, processing MB r177 now, as I run out of AP workunits.

Is there any place you can provide me, so I can post inform AMD of that, if it is their "bug"?

Thanks.

I'm using BOINC 6.12.26, Lunatics ap_5.06_win_x86_SSE2_OpenCL_ATI_r456 and Lunatics MB_6.10_win_SSE3_ATI_r177 (both on seti@home).
My 4870x2 is using Catalyst 11.4 and it seems that during the process of a workunit on the 2nd GPU (AP or MB), the clocks stay at 2d mode (500MHz), when the 1st GPU is at 750MHz as it should be.
Both GPUs were found during BOINC Manager startup with same\correct capabilities.
Possibly it is a Catalyst fault, but is there any option to force 3D clocks on the 2nd GPU through app_info.xml or cc_config.xml ?

FYI, running FurMark both GPU goes into 3D clocks.

Well, no matter what combination of Boinc I use (32bit or 64bit, older version or new version etc), it still refuse to work the old data units.
Well I give up. Sorry to my wingmen...
I'm just waiting for new data units to come out :(

I did as you told me but again all cache was "discarded"... :-(
The log entries of Boinc are exactly the same as before.

I really do not want to just drop the 178 data units from the "32bit-setup"...

Any other thoughts?

PS. Thank Claggy for your time

My mistake for the misunderstanding.
I had copied the whole Boinc directory as you've said, not just the files.

So, I tried again but using the uninstall/install of Boinc this time.
The messages 'discarding' appeared again, so "no go".

I saw that the init_data.xml files (\slot folders) contain two tags which may need fixing to point to the new path (\ProgramData\Boinc).

These are:
<project_dir>C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu</project_dir>
<boinc_dir>C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC</boinc_dir>

Are there any other files that contain such references which need fixing? (or I'm going the wrong way here?)

Hello.

I've just migrate from WinXP Pro x86 to Win7 Ultimate 64bit. I also installed the 6.10.43 -was using 6.10.36 on WinXP.

With the Boinc Client closed, I copied the files from the old O/S \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC to the new O/S \ProgramData\BOINC, but when I run the Boinc Manager from the Win7 I got the messages below:

Which indeed empties all my cache, leave me with no DUs at all.
Is the pass from 32bit to 64bit O/S valid for moving the cache as I did? Or I just have to wait to download new ones?

I still have access to the old O/S Boinc files, if needed in a solution.

Thanks in advance.

With <checkpoint_debug>1</checkpoint_debug> I did saw the checkpoints logged on Messages every 60 seconds, but the client_state.xml file was not updated as it did with earlier versions than 6.10.17.
I saw that this update procedure has been moved to the boinc_task_state.xml found on the slot folder of the workunit, which is being updated -as a file- every 60 seconds. Did I got it right?

Although the "Tasks checkpoint to disk at most every X seconds" is set to 60, the client_state.xml file is updated maybe every randomly 30+ minutes.
This is not happening with 6.6.41 version.

Using ATI Catalyst drivers 9.10 with 6.10.17, I found out that the clocks of my 4870x2 go to 3D mode and stay there all the time BOINC Manager is running.

I'm not sure how you deduct that they "go to 3D mode". What program do you use for that?

This is happening without SETI having work to crunch on the GPU.
Is this normal?

As you've been told on Seti already, that project doesn't even have work for your GPU. When it has work (at this moment very little), it's for CPU and CUDA (or Nvidia) GPUs only. Not for ATI GPUs. And for the foreseeable future there won't be an ATI compatible app available from Seti either.

So if you only do Seti, or at least do no work for the projects that actually support ATI GPUs, there's no real use for you to allow BOINC to detect the GPU at this point. And really, simply said, that's all BOINC does: detect if a certain DLL file is present on your system and from that deduct that your ATI card is capable or not to do Brook+/CAL calculations on those projects that support it (Collatz and Milkyway). (If you want to see what it does in detail, read through Coproc.cpp)

And so, you can easily disable the GPU detection. To do so, make a file called cc_config.xml in your BOINC Data directory, or edit an existing one. The file doesn't come with BOINC, you will always have to make it yourself.

Add into it the following lines:
<cc_config>
    <options>
        <no_gpus>1</no_gpus>
    </options>
</cc_config>

Save file, exit BOINC & restart it. A simple Advanced->Read config file won't do in this situation.

I've installed Catalysts 9.11b4 for XP and tried again with 6.10.17. The same issue occured. Using Rivatuner, I saw that the clocks running in 3D Mode, even with no work to do. Maybe the drivers have a feature of going to 3d mode when its files been accessed? (as BOINC does when trying to determine if a ATI GPU is present) Maybe the drivers recognize BOINC Application as a 3d mode application?

I'm now using the <no_gpus> command to avoid this issue.
