Thank you for the reply Jord. Some log files just keep growing and can chew up a lot of space, nice to know Boinc cleans up after itself.

Should be an easy answer for the experienced users. Where is the boinc event log (Windows 11) and how can I clear it out.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you Dave for responding so quickly. Been running my Ryzen 5 machine for 7 years and have not kept up with the current generation and characteristics of processors. I will try your suggestion on number of CPUs and limit the cpus at night as I have to close the door on my home at night to keep the cats out and it tends to be a bit warm in there.

I am using Windows 11 and have experimented with using tthrottle on my old machine. Never could get the results I was expecting, do you throttle the boinc process or each task process? Thank you for responding so quickly I will try your cpu percentage recommendation to see if that helps.

I got a new computer with ryzen 9 7940hs (8 cores 16 threads). I have been running 90% cpu usage 25% of the time divided by 16 threads gives me 1.4% cpu resources for each task. This has the cpu temp in the mid to upper 80's sometimes reaching 93. I read this cpu will throttle to prevent damage from overheating. Can I trust it to do this and not self destruct? My current machine is running a Ryzen 5 from 2017 and it runs the same type of mix in the upper 80's to low 90's. I found out the hard way if it gets too hot it shuts down and windows crashes.

Is there an easier way to calculate task throughput rather than trial and error varying the cpu usage and percent of time used? Do I calculate task cpu resources as percent of cpu's used times cpu usage percent divided by the number of cpu threads?

Any help is appreciated.

I have been and am currently running cpdn projects. My account has not been credited with any work since mid april and I have a trickle up that has been pending for several days. Two of the cpdn web site support pages do not work, is this project having problems?

7) Message boards : BOINC Manager : cannot add collatz project to boinc

I have been running collatz for several months and recently received a notice via boinc notices that the collatz web url I have is old. I was told to remove the project and re add it which I did. But I keep getting the message "failed to add project please try again later". This has been going on for a week now, I have over 2 million points with collatz, will I ever get it back? Anybody got any ideas? The URL to add collatz is https://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/

Thanks Claggy. No known problems at the Collatz forum, they suggested I update my nvidia drivers.

Running windows vista, just upgraded to boinc 7.0.25
I am receiving computation errors on Collatz 3.11 nvidia GPU. There are no indications of errors in the event log. Anyone else having computation errors? I had been running verson 6.10.56 for a long time with no problems. What would you recommend? I searched the forum and did not see anything recent about comp errors.

Thanks Jord. I installed it today and so far all seems well. It even started the seti cuda work units I had been having problems with.

Is anyone using 6.10.56 in the windows world and if so has it caused you any problems? I am using 6.10.43 and it has some cuda problems which is causing me more and more grief. I cant go back to 6.10.18 as einstein will not run under that version.

Running vista 64b nvidia GPU

I have been running seti cuda successfully for several months now. I upgraded to 6.10.43 about 3 weeks ago and all appeared to go well. A few days latter I attached to collatz and began cuda processing on that one. Ever since then seti cuda has not been working. I get seti work units, they say ready to process but never start. Collatz continues to crunch away finishing a cuda work unit every 3 hrs or so. I added debug statements to the xml file and am not getting any messages about too little gpu memory. Environment is vista 64b 6 gig, nvidia 9600m gt with 512 mem memory. Any ideas?

Thanks to all of you. I aborted all the cuda workunits yesterday but they are still showing in the client and are taking up 750meg of disk space. How do I physically get rid of them?

Jord:

That is interesting, I looked all over the Einstein web site and could not find any cuda requirements. I do have 512mg of video memory so looks like it should run.
Thanks for your help.

I have run afoul of the excessive work unit download this version suffers from. Einstein has downloaded 30 or so workunits (cuda) and none of them are starting. I know cuda works because seti and collatz are using the GPU. I have suspended this project. What version should I revert back to and what are the proper steps to get rid of the excessive Einstein work units and to recover proper functioning of this project?

Environment is vista 64b with nvidia 9600m GT GPU.

I have an HP HDX16t using a geoforce 9600m video chip. While running cuda enabled boinc apps the GPU temp runs in the mid 70's centrigrade. I have found on other forums that this is an acceptable long term temp. Do any of you other boincers have any thoughts on GPU temps and what can be tolerated for long term usage?

I updated my client a few days ago to allow einstein to run, kept getting messages it would not run on my older client. Just happened to get and install 6.10.43 which has been running without any problems. Do I need to revert back to the 6.10.18 version which is currently available? Am running on vista/64b with cuda support (nvidia).

Gundolf:
Does using the CUDA cpu have any impact on system graphics performance? I notice the seti priority in task manager is "below normal" rather than low like the other tasks. Can I disable usage of that core?
