well?

setup_32_64_boinc_tasks_1_5_8.exe is malicious, and Chrome has blocked it.

seems like boinctasks has been put on the no no list by someone somewhere....

Someone did that to the Seti@Home exe file once too, you may have to download BT with IE10 or IE11. I use Firefox x64 Nightly and I've never had a problem here downloading BT from Firefox.

Ok I did find the toolbox, I can see it say 'yes,connected' and no toolbox, the password is there of course, then when it says 'yes,not connected' toolbox is not detected. I had to upgrade to 7.2.39(Boinc was nagging Me) and at first I downloaded the 32bit version by mistake, I fixed that with the 64bit version and created a remote_hosts.cfg file with this PCs ip address in it, which I'll need for the next two PCs I bring online, when I do have the PCs built that is and altered My cc_config.xml file to add the following on the bottom line(in bold)

<cc_config>
<options>
<http_1_0>1</http_1_0>
<use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>
<max_file_xfers>24</max_file_xfers>
<max_file_xfers_per_project>33</max_file_xfers_per_project>
<allow_remote_gui_rpc>1</allow_remote_gui_rpc>
</options>
</cc_config>

I tried that twice BT still comes up as 1.58, not 1.581 and yes I downloaded the latest from the US site. http://www.efmer.eu/boinc/boinc_tasks/download_beta.html And I've tried both the US an Euro link, neither is 1.581, so unless I'm in the wrong spot on the site, I don't know what else to say. I looked in the file and there is no toolbox that I can see.

OK BoincTasks in 1.58 is identical to the one in 1.581, both are 1.58.
1.581 has this program BoincToolbox included.
This should explain things: http://www.efmer.eu/boinc/boinc_tasks/manual_net.html
Intended for new users / computers.

Toolbox isn't loaded here and I can't remember which file has the boinc password. Never mind I found the password, I still don't have the toolbox loaded in BT.

I see BT 1.581 in text is online, yet there is no way to download it, where did 1.581 go Fred?

Just download the latest 1.58. While installing you see Version 1.581.
1.581 installer has the helper program toolbox.

Bionctasks website has been down for about three weeks. Any idea when they will be back? Asking here AS forum is not available. Suppose to be loading an older version of database. Cant logon.

You mean the forum?
http://efmer.com/forum/
It did move but a long time ago.

Well I'm having less problems with 1.46 than with 1.47, like half the time under 1.47 I generated a 'missed', under 1.46 that almost never occurred. But whatever you say, I'll just stick with 1.46...

Never tinker with things that work fine.

Yeah, I just installed a faster fan, 3900rpm vs 3400rom and a Corsair TX850W psu w/a single 12v rail with a 70A capacity, if there is any downclocking to be had, I'll be able to eliminate the psus, then it would be down to the GTX580 or the motherboard, hopefully nothing uneventful happens. Sometimes I wish PCs weren't so dang complicated. I had to rewire a 3 pin fan extension cable to make a Dell wired fan work, at the very least the red and black are flipped from what they would be on a PWM fan...

Oh and with Boinc 7.0.64 and BoincTasks 1.47, BT said the pc here had 121 wu's in Seti and that currently is impossible, at other times it would say there were 116 wu's, then back to 121, so I uninstalled 1.47 and installed 1.46 just to see what would happen, instead of 121(Projects) and 99(Tasks) wu's, I was seeing only 99 wu's on both screens, the problems I've noted were/are commented on by Fred.E at Seti in one of the v7 threads if you don't believe Me, I'd put a link up, but Seti seems to be down right now and has been since 9:13:49pm on May 31st 2013.

Tasks gives all the WU's, including the completed and is recent
Projects gives you only running and waiting to run. The values are only an indications and may be 15 minutes old.
As it is derived from the history count that isn't updated too frequently.
I don't want BoincTasks to take up too much CPU time, so some things are a compromise.

Ok, I have to apologize to both Ageless and to Fred, :O , I uninstalled Boinc yesterday, renamed the two folders so that when I reinstalled Boinc there would be new folders and files created(I didn't get the hidden one that pertains I think only basic data, like where the data file goes), I attached to Seti and started work at 8pm, I'd tried to go to sleep at 11:30pm couldn't, so at 1:30am I got up and stayed up until 2:30am, the last time a gpu work unit was processed was at 2:59:59am, the next one started a little before 6:18:50am,when I moved mouse, which I found odd to say the least, as I'd seen this more than once, so I did a Google search concerning that time frame of 3:00am, guess what? It might be Windows Update shutting the video card down, as it's has a default time of 3:00am if one is downloading but not installing updates or if one wants to be notified of new up dates, so I had to set for full automatic so the time could be set for like 9:00am and there are 3 boxes there, one to Microsoft I unchecked and one for recommended updates I unchecked, but who can install updates is still checked, it just means I would have to pay attention to the hardocp for update news, I found this in a Bitcoin forum of all places, I'll know more Sunday morning, for now I can only wait. Windows can be so complicated in what effects what...

What about this?

He does not work for the developers in Berkeley, although he does work with them at times when a bug is found. As far as I know, Fred lives nowhere near Berkeley --though I could be mistaken, wasn't it Blaricum? ;-)

I didn't say He did any of the above...

So when My cache is empty I'll detach and uninstall Boinc, then rename the two folders boinc knew about and then reinstall boinc 6.10.58 x64 and reattach, as that seems to be the only solution open to Me, since I had thought I'd done enough before, I used the old folders last time I started over and lost cpu work in the process, this time the old folders will not be reused as it seems something might be borked, but if this still doesn't fix the problem, then what do I do?

@VW Bobier: Both BOINC Manager and BOINCTasks are graphical user interfaces. They allow you to give commands to the underlying BOINC client in an easier way than having to do so through a command line window. Other than storing around 2,000 lines of text in the Event Log/Messages, they do not do any of the downloading, uploading, reporting, caching of work, scheduling which project to run next and all those other fun things that you see being done.

All that is done by the BOINC client. Which is a separate program. Both BOINC Manager and the BOINC client are developed and made by Berkeley.

Fred his programs are third party, they work with the BOINC client. He does not work for the developers in Berkeley, although he does work with them at times when a bug is found. As far as I know, Fred lives nowhere near Berkeley --though I could be mistaken, wasn't it Blaricum? ;-)

If you find that downloading, uploading, reporting or running of work has changed between BOINC versions, then it's due to differences in those BOINC versions, not due to BOINCTasks.

I never said Fred worked or had anything to do with Berkeley, Ageless...

Well in 7 days I will see if BT is even worth having on My hdd again, cause if I find that Boinc Manager has no such problem(which happened under 7.0.62 when I did run BT and 7.0.62 together), I had plenty of work on the hdd then as I do now, just BT thinking no gpu work was available and so no gpu activity, yet the cpu had plenty, yet there were no massive downloads when BT restarts, just restarting 5 work units... Cause if I find no problems, it will be uninstall and full folder erase of BT and any and all BT installers, cause I will be done here for good, since I don't like being abandoned...

You can even run the BOINC Manager alongside BoincTasks.
BoincTasks is only the visual shell, doesn't start or stop anything all by itself.
It may have been caused by going from V7 back to V6.
And there are so many BOINC version that it's impossible for me to test them all, again and again.

There are thousands of BoincTasks users and this is the only report of this kind of problem.

You are not forced to use BoincTasks....

Then I'll have to stop all downloads, done, once I'm out I'll have to uninstall 6.10.58 and rename the Boinc folders and start over from scratch, after detaching from Seti, then reattach all over again...

I thought BT was supposed to manage Boinc...

Something is going on and the logs don't say much, they just say what was worked on, not how much work there was and there was no work downloaded from Seti in the time frame that happened and of course BT did note that work on gpu work just stopped around 4:43am pt and then restarted around 6am when I looked at BoincTasks again. If Boinc 6.10.58 is causing this what do I do Fred? Do I work thru My cache, detach and then uninstall and erase the folders and then reinstall and reattach? As that may take several days to accomplish...

BoincTasks only does something when you tell it to, not by itself.

Start using the latest BOINC version 7.0.64.
I'm not sure what this version does with running tasks.

That's the version BoincTasks is mostly tested with.

So you don't support 6.10.58 anymore either? Well I don't want or see the need to run 7.0.64 yet, since there are no native apps outside of Beta, in any case for a week(7 days) I'll run Boinc Manager 6.10.58 x64, if I see a problem ok, if I do not see a problem like where no gpu tasks are being worked on and such, yet there was evidence of a full cache of gpu work, like happened under BT 1.47, then what Fred??? Hmm??

I haven't gone into NC yet with this, but I may...

It should support the older version. But it's not actively tested.
And as I said the problem isn't BoincTasks related as far as I can tell.
Anyway this version is far to old for me to test.

Something is going on Fred, Tonight I may shut down BoincTasks 1.47 and use BoincManager 6.10.58 instead... Cause I don't like the idea of the gpu stopping work... When the gpu has plenty of work on hand and yet forgets that it has any...

You lost me, BoincTasks does nothing, just shows you what's going on.
The BOINC client is the one that does all the work, like running GPU tasks.

If the GPU has enough work, check the BOINC log (messages) to see why the work stopped.

Maybe running out of work: Project has no tasks available.

If Boinc 6.10.58 is causing this what do I do Fred? Do I work thru My cache, detach and then uninstall and erase the folders and then reinstall and reattach? As that may take several days to accomplish...

So what do I know? Not much evidently.

If it works it works. The 2 seconds is probably what did it.
SETI is really quick every 5 minutes a request.

Don't look now, but the 2 seconds didn't work, the gtx580 temp got up to a temp of 73C, max for the 580 is 97C, first from the log, then from History...
