I have a primary computer with a AMD Phenom II X 4 955 processor with a 285 GTX video card under Vista.
The primary computer gets less Seti@home work units than my secondary computer. My secondary computer is a AMD Phenom IIX 4 920 with a 260 GTX card under Win XP.
Over the past few weeks, my secondary computer gets more work units than my primary computer even thru both have the same pref's. Is this a scheduler problem or what?
For example, the primary computer gets 8 Seti@home work units and right away I send a update command in the secondary computer boinc manager and gets 20 Seti@home work units. Both computers have the 6.10.18 boinc manager version.

Thanks Richard,

I am using GridRepublic manager and had to unconnect the manager and was able to detach a project. Using the account manager again, the project I removed came back! I guess I would have to stop using the account manager and manage the projects myself.

I currently have five projects running. Four of these projects has the detach command disabled or blanked out. How do I detach a project/ (example: Enigma@Home, malariacontrol.net)on the Boinc manager 6.10.17?

Today, Oct the 29th, the boinc manager reported that they have no projects available for SETI@home, Milkyway@home.Malariacontrol,Enigma and Collatz Conjecture. Also I noticed that the current boinc manager version is 6.6.38. A few days ago it was 6.6.41.

I tried the 6.10.14 version and a optimized application from Collatz Conjecture. I am using the version 2.06 ( collatt_2.06_Win32_ATI.zip ) and boinc beta 6.10.14. With those applications, My 4890 OC video card is running in GPU however once a while, the 4890 OC driver software would crash and reset itself. I am using the 9.10 drivers and the forum at Collatz Conjecture said that I should use the 8.12 drivers. Will have to try that older driver version and test it out. Using Catalyst 8.12 drivers, I will have to use the collatt_2.06_Win32_AMD.zip version. Still no optimized applications for SETI@home yet.

What is the update on getting a boinc manager for the newer ATI GPU's? I hope there will be more projects for the ATI GPU's. Lots of people can't afford to pay more for the 285 GTX and the 295 GTX series.

Because you didn't add the 3rd party application. See the Optimized apps thread in their forums for that.

No one told me about this or I have not read any information regarding this at the time I was using the 4890 OC video card
10) Message boards : Questions and problems : Connect to internet when I want to (Message 27965)
Posted 13 Oct 2009 by Terry Stick
Post:
I have entered the hours in the preferences for Network. Even using the general options, I put in 1 day to the Connect about every option inbox and the work buffer. The Boinc still wants to connect to the internet and after a while, the manager would stop all tasks and I get a blank white screen. After that happens, I am unable to connect to the internet and have to restart the computer. This has happened too many times. I don't like to keep the internet connection enabled when the only major program running is the boinc manager while I am sleeping. I need to know which ports the boinc manager uses and will have to add those ports to the firewall.

I read in a computer magazine that adding a second video card in SLI mode will not double the performance. You would get about 20-30 percent improvement. With two same GeForce video cards in SLI mode, you would get one cuda credit. If you disable the SLI then you will get two cuda credits.

GeForce video card is better because it has a co-processor and ATI GPU's do not.

You said: The Nvidia CUDA capable and ATI Stream capable GPUs are coprocessors.

When Boinc manager runs the benchmarks, it said that the 285 GTX has a coprocessor. When I ran the benchmark under 4890 OC, it said no coprocessor found.

I have heard that the 4890 OC is more powerful that the 285 GTX but I had to sell the 4890 OC because it was too hot and crashing my system. At the time I was using the 4890 OC, I have not been able to get Milkyway tasks for the ATI GPU.

After I get enough CPU and CUDA projects, I go to boinc manager and turn off the network activity and lock the firewall. Why does the boinc manager has to be connected at all times? I don't want to leave my computer connected to the internet when the boinc manager is the only program running. I prefer to block the internet connection with the boinc is running while I am sleeping. My computer is running 24/7. I have a up to date firewall and internet security suite software, when I am not using the internet, I just block the connection for security reasons. Why can't the boinc manager wait until all the projects are completed then I will connect to the internet and get new tasks?

I brought a HD 4890 OC 1 GB video card and using it with Boinc 6.6.36, it doesn't support the GPU which uses ATI Stream. Boinc uses CUDA which is found on GeForce video cards. I was getting video artifacts on all my games so I had to buy a new GeForce 285 GTX video card. With this new 285 GTX, all my games work fine and I'm getting lots of Cuda projects from SETI and Milkyway.
Milkyway@home will add support for ATI GPU soon. I did tried Folding@home but I heard that it is old project.

GeForce video card is better because it has a co-processor and ATI GPU's do not.
When I had the 4890 OC, it was running too hot and I think it was crashing the games even inside a air conditioned room. I used a 750 watt power supply with a large 130mm fan. The case I am using is a Cooler Master Full tower with four huge fans.

I recently installed the latest boinc version for Windows x86. It was running fine until now. When I start up the boinc manager, it says "retrieving system state, please wait" and then it quits. However the projects are running in the background. I am using Vista 32 bit OS. Vista problem reporting application of Boinc manager is listed below. I have removed and reinstalled the manager application and the problem continues.
