Radioactive site has been very slow for a while, and I'm unable to post a message there as it just sits spinning it's wheels after I submit. The project isn't finished, it just goes down every day for a while :) I think it's moved to a new hosting service, and it's still having teething troubles. Anyway, it's up now. |

Enigmatic. Cicada 3301 perhaps? ;) |
8) Message boards : BOINC client : how to avoid data corruption on windows shutdown if you forgot to suspend projects
Message 63904 Posted 29 Aug 2015 by ChertseyAl |
Cool story bro. But I have to say I've never had data corruption when shutting down, BOINCing for 10 years a dozen machines at a time. But then I only use XP and Ubuntu, so maybe they are safer. Though I doubt it. |

Apparently the radioactive@home virtual server keeps crashing for unknown reasons and it's hoped to be back in a couple of days according to Krzysztof. |

I hate people that bump unanswered posts by replying to themselves with: Nobody? Here's a couple of clues - Either nobody knows the answer, or nobody can decipher your gibberish, or perhaps everyone just hates you. Especially if you bump the thread after less than 24 hours. Just sayin' |
11) Message boards : Questions and problems : more work units
Message 62052 Posted 5 May 2015 by ChertseyAl |
You can use the <ncpus>N</ncpus> option in your cc_config.xml file to simulate more CPUs than you actually have: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/client_configuration But you won't gain anything in terms of work throughput, you'll just be sharing cores between multiple work units :) |

Looks like an old backup from 18th January or thereabouts has been loaded and wiped everything out. Apart from the inevitable spammers of course :) |
13) Message boards : Projects : new project: DENIS@home
Message 61498 Posted 9 Apr 2015 by ChertseyAl |
When trying to set up an account, it says to do so by "attaching to project" via boinc manager - but the project isn't in the list. Advice would be appreciated. Thank you. Good luck with the project too. I'll answer anyway ;) Just go through the add project option, and rather than select one from the list just paste the project link into the URL text box and continue as if you'd selected it from the list. The URL to paste is this: http://denis.usj.es/denisathome/ (Not clickable to make it easy to copy'n'paste!). |

And it's back up - I dare say the backlog of uploads/updates/downloads will slow it down for a while though ;) |

I emailed Fabio - There had been a DDOS attack - He expects the project to be up today (2nd Apr). |
16) Message boards : Questions and problems : Always end up on Google Home Page
Message 60888 Posted 12 Mar 2015 by ChertseyAl |
FWIW I've found FF 36.0.1 very buggy - It randomly loses some settings, and when I click on one of the buttons in BOINC I do go to the right page (sort of) but it doesn't render properly and I get half of the BOINC Manager window apparently as part of the web page. V36 also seems to have the old plugin container bug back again, as well as the really old memory leak that was fixed ages ago. They messed this version up :( |

The server status is in the usual place ... http://boinc.biruni.upm.my/pucbi/server_status.php There was work on the 22nd Jan that apparently worked, then everything after that until the 24th seems to be computation errors. Nothing since then. |

Message 59834 Posted 19 Jan 2015 by ChertseyAl |
The only way to get any answers is to email Fabio (the admin) or possibly tweet him. I usually just email him if there's a problem and he fixes it pretty quickly. It's not ideal, but it's a reliable project so no big deal. I don't think the project is ending yet as no counterexplamples to AKS have been found yet. Presumably as soon as just one is found the project could end immediately. |
19) Message boards : Questions and problems : A small big detail
Message 59448 Posted 9 Jan 2015 by ChertseyAl |
As BOINC doesn't actually do any work it wouldn't be down to them. The projects could give some small award/reward for achievement (and some do, Einstein for instance), other than that it's down to badges and rank in the individual project leaderboards. Combining WUs/points/badges across projects is pointless as they all do different types of work for different amounts of credit. |
20) Message boards : BOINC Manager : RFE: Enable messages tab option
Message 58391 Posted 2 Dec 2014 by ChertseyAl |
Why not make it configurable? Have an option to enable the messages tab, defaulted to not displaying it. Oh, and make it configurable to turn off the notices tab, and especially make it not hijack BOINC manager and switch away from the last selected tab :) |
